Hybred or Liberty
Hybred or Liberty
I want one of these masks and when I looked them up on CPAP.com, they both look the same. the last person on the hybrid order page posted the following:

(5 out of 5) by Darrell R.
"I have used several different full-faced mask and have not found one that was comfortable and did not leak. This is partially because I sleep on my back and on my sides, moving around at night. Early on when I started using a CPAP machine I used masks with just nasal pillows. I enjoy using nasal pillows and they seem to help keep my sinuses clearer than full masks. Unfortunately, I have to use a chin strap and I have never found one that both worked and was comfortable. The combination idea that is in the Hybrid seems to give me everything I want and need. I had tried the Resmed Mirage Liberty mask first, but found it uncomfortable, especially right above my lips below my nose. Also, I had a great deal of trouble with leaks. When a leak does occur they are very difficult to get adjusted and you basically have to take the mask off and try to start all over. There are only two sizes available, small and large, although there are different size pillows. I tried the large first and that didn't work at all ( and I am not small). I tried the small and that worked better as far as leaks are concerned, although not good enough, but it was really uncomfortable.
The Hybrid has given me the best of all worlds. With three sizes of mouth masks and three sizes of nasal pillows that can be adjusted up and down, you have a lot of variety to find the right fit. After experimenting a little, I have found that the medium mouth mask and the large nasal pillows work best for me. I have virtually no leaks, except when we keep the room so cold that I get condensation, and if I do get one, they are easy to correct. I find the mask very comfortable and do not have the discomfort that I had with the Liberty. As an additional comparison, I find this mask more comfortable than nasal pillows only with a chin strap."
Thing is, both say good things.
would you say this referral is close to the overall consensus or could the same be said in reverse?

It's a consensus for all those persons who have the same size and shape face as Darrell R.
Everyone is different, the two masks are similar. One or the other may work better for you or both may work equally well for you or neither may work well for you. When it comes to mask interfaces, you just have to give it a try and see how it works for YOU.
The Hybrid does offer more fitting options (ie. 3 oral cushions and 3 pairs of nasal pillows) ... Liberty offer 2 oral cushions but you have to by separate and each of the two comes with 3 pairs of nasal pillows. If the Hybrid does not work out, then you have two Liberty masks that you can try afterwards

Yeah, the problem with all masks is that you can only tell which is right for you by trial and error.
I'm happy enough with the Hybrid that I probably won't try the Liberty, but it is likely that there are many people who feel the reverse.
Good luck,
Susan

Liberty or Hybrid?
I've been (trying to) sleep(ing) with the ResMed Liberty for a couple of weeks now, and hate the thing. There was no way that the nasal pillows would stay put to allow air into my nostrils, and they would actually bend in a way that closed off any air going in or out. In other words my mask was trying to kill me.
Although Apria Healthcare in Seattle doesn't stock the Hybrid they were good enough to special order it for me after I griped long enough. I got fitted for the Hybrid at the Resp. Therapist's office and although sitting in a chair's a whole lot different than sleeping (or not) with a mask, I've got hopes that this elusive thing called "sleep" will finally be mine...

If anyone has a Hybrid that they are dissatisfied with and would like to sell, let me know - If its complete and uncut, I'd like to give it a try.

Jimbobo, I don't know were or when you read that referral, but I will say this...
That guy Derrall R is right on the money as far as my experience is concerned and I couldn't have written a better critique, myself. If that's off CPAP.com, I have found that we can only post when we buy something and therefor, those opinions are far more honest than most forums where resmed or some other company might troll.
The Hybrid has been a wonderful alternative for me, but everyones face is different.

I've just got a Liberty on trial. It fitted really well and was very comfortable at the clinic. I have high hope of tonight and look forward to not fiddling with mouth taping.

Hybrid or Liberty
I have used both the Liberty and the hybrid. First the Liberty. I liked the mask, it seemed to work for me but in 2 months I broke 2 masks by rolling over in bed. Then I switched to the Hybrid. The first month I couldn't get it to feel comfortable. It leaked like crazy. Then I cut the chin guard thingy off the mask and cut one leg off my wife's pantyhose to hold in the nasal pillows and now I sleep better than ever. I have almost 0 leaks and wake up in the morning with the mask on my face.
The Hybrid seems to be more forgiving with cushion size as I routinely switch between med and large cushions. Both seem to fit me well. The med pillows feel the best and work OK though the large pillows never leak but are slightly uncomfortable.
I liked the liberty until it broke (twice.)
I Like the Hybrid much better after I figured out it's secrets.
Good luck

Mouth breather here, using a loaner Liberty right now...If I could keep the pillows sealed (small), I would get one asap. I've tried everything short of the pantyhose trick and they just wont keep a seal.deerslayer wrote:BUMP)))) any other owners of these want to chime in? really hopeing this will be the one * thanks, tim
No DME's in my area stock the Hybrid so I dont have a way to try one and wont buy it unless I can try it first, so I am going to have to try a traditional FF next

..........let us know how it goes Moby. it is getting a little frustrating with the whole deal. swift 11 is very comfortable, seals well but am leaking air from mouth which destroys therapy #'s. full face are uncomfortable, therapy #'s are good but are skewed by leaks. chinstraps donot work. have blowouts w/ the poli strips. i am really hoping the hybrid is the answerMoby wrote:I've just got a Liberty on trial.
