i can't really say that my symptoms of plmd are the same as you described, although since i have fibromyalgia, i attribute most pain to that, to my detriment, in that i tend to not address new pain when it appears;...having said that, i did start to have extreme pain in only my right leg about a year ago, (fm symptoms usually present on both sides of the body) and my occasional bouts of sciatica became an almost permanent condition...turns out that while i seem to twitch and jerk all over while sleeping, the extremely frequent limb movement involves my right leg, so it never rests, the sciatic nerve never rests and sadly, i never rest...who knew?

Sharon,

Fibromyalgia and sciatica problems are so awful and to not sleep on top of it. I really feel for you,

I wonder if there is any link between fibromylgia or chronic fatigue and sleep problems. In researching the 2 disorders for neighbors, I recognized a great many symptoms in myself. It seems a lot of disorders are linked and if one cause figure out the common cause they might have some hope of fixing it.

Have you tried chiropractic for your sciatica? I wrote above of my excellent experience with mine and the severely herniated disk I had 4 times due to car wrecks involving sciatica which is so painful.

Well, I don't know if the leg pains I have are, in fact, related to the PLMD. It's just I really notice these first thing in the morning more so than throughout the day. I wonder if they is anywhere online that shows what these PLMD jerks/flexes look like. Have you ever seen them?

I wish people didn't have to suffer so in life like yourself. You seem like a wonderful person.

there is, indeed, a link between sleep disorders and fibromyalgia, in that fm is often caused by disrupted sleep...no restorative sleep=no repaired muscles...i've just been hoping that the cpap will give me restorative sleep and perhaps reverse some of the damage from fm...i do see a chiropractor, once a month, and have for some time now, which does help with the sciatica, although i do have to say that while i'm not feeling any more energetic or rested since beginning cpap, one thing i have noticed is a marked decrease in the sciatica, even between chiro appt's, so some part of me is resting and, hopefully, repairing

(thanks for the kind words)

I was just reading that the flower essense Vervain is good for sleep apnea patientsd and is helpful for people with strong opinions about everything (I wonder how many people with sleep apnea would describe themselves that way).

Anyways, more information on this and other aids for sleep apnea (and other sleep disorders) can be found here

they also have a great classification chart of intrinsic (internally caused) and extrinic (externally caused) sleep disorders, and other classifications etc.

A nice summary and clarification

Sharon,

I have a lot of muscle pain that I just assumed was from past wrecks and arthritis but in reading at this link, I see it is associated with little stage 4 sleep as you mentioned. If we are not getting much stage 4, the muscle can't repair.

I swear another thing I just learned. It is most upsetting realizing about 15 things I have are all related to sleep deprivation/disorders. I figured my apnea was OK since I was wearing the mask and didn't realize all the emotional, mental, and physical programs I have struggled with are by and large associated.

I never realized how important getting this under control was and how important those sleep studies. To think I was avoiding them for years when they are so necessary to tweaking my treatment and alerting me to what is going on.

This kind of gives me hope maybe if I can fix whatever is at the root, and improve sleep, my muscle pains will go away which maker it hard to do much exercise. But I did tonight..I am going to try to start walking. I hope I will allow the time as I usually let it fall to the wayside. But I am thinking it will be good for me..

As far as your sciatica, I suspect that the chiropractic adjustments are kicking in,,my chiropractor told me at first the muscle have gotten used to being in the wrong place.

With each adjustment back to the right place, the time before muscles go back to wrong place increases. At first, he might adjust and within ten minutes it has went back to the wrong place, maybe next time it holds 25 minutes, then next 45 minutes , an hour, ten hours, day, etc. Eventually it starts staying in the right place longer and after some time it is pretty much staying in the right place all the time, the pain is gone or dramatically reduced and then you just go for maintenance.

When I was run over by the car, I went three times a year and by a year I was going much less. Because, I had been in so many car accidents and re-injured my back, I needed to go permanently and was going weekly and doing pretty good. When insurance quit paying chiropractic, I was really scared it would hurt but my low back has been pretty good (though my neck not as good) and when they hurt, I use the magnets and the pain pretty much goes away, so I am doing pretty good without these past years. I just went back a week ago first time in two years and I am thinking of going in every 3 or 4 months as I think I can afford that.

I was trying to remember to drink raw apple cider vinegar and raw honey in water three times a day, but I forget all the time. I read fascinating book through inter-library loan by JC Jarvis about arthritis and how it dissolves the calcium deposits from joints (where they are not supposed to go) and into bloodstream and then bones (where they are supposed to go). Many cures (but not really a cure but pain goes away) but if you stop drinking it, the pain comes back. This has a lot of other good effects on your health too. I try to mix a day's worth and put in a glass sparkling juice bottle and sip on it when I think of it but so far forget it most days. But if it is not arthritis but sleep related (who would have thought) maybe eventually it will go away.

Here is where I read that and other about link with fibromyalgia and sleep disorders.

Yeah, dawg,

I know what you mean. I liked Ledger too, but dude, he didn't die from HIV, so be cool. I don't think you have any sleep disorders, but you need to keep that slut off you all night so you can get your rest. Remember your father, George Bush says abstinence is best, but we all know that's BS, so wear a condom.

Have you ever had your vitamin D checked?

Post by sososleepy » Tue Mar 04, 2008 2:31 pm

Hi Sleepyjane,
Thanks for the great thread. I am a big believer in alternative medicine.
I was researching alternative treatments for narcolepsy a few months ago and remember reading about a supplement that was suppose to help one go through all phases of sleep. I don't have a link to share but will look for the link when i have time.
Also, i've done a lot of research on vitamin d because mine was very low, only 4. Being deficent in vitamin D can cause so many symptoms, including EDS and many other symptoms. I just started taking it along with daily treatments with a light box. I've had the light box for years but just started using it again. Don't remember were ibought it. I'll do some research regarding the supplement i read about. If i find it i'll post it. Good Luck!
