DME's Blast Online CPAP Dealers On CompetingBid.com Forum

Post by johnnygoodman » Tue Sep 11, 2007 10:13 pm

I agree with all of you. There is absolutely no overhead or service built in these online prices. We all know there is no comparison between online retailers and true DME providers.
To merit their claim, of course things are cheaper on the internet. The internet resellers are volume sellers they make pennies on the dollar, and believe me "goodwill" is not built into their sales model.
There is a significant amount of medicine that is and should be understood and involved in the set up and use of BiPAP. This is NOT something you want from an INTERNET VENDOR... oh here's your new device, bye now. Are these folks simply uninformed or just stupid?

Blast!

They fired full artillery. Cannons, gunships, warplanes.

Too bad they painted their generalities with such a large brush.

Not good

Just remember, the DME's are more likely to pay for expensive lobbyists and get legislation passed outlawing online sales of xPAP equipment. There isn't enough money in the online sector to fight with them yet. We're better off staying under the DME's radar and writing a few letters to our representatives.

If I'm wrong and the online vendors are willing to organize a fight with the DMEs, they'll get the support of the consumers - I'd even pitch in a couple of $ with each order to support "fight for your right to help manage your own health (buy online equipment)".

Darn! I wanted to comment. But I couldn't register since I'm not affiliated w/a local DME supplier and couldn't provide a company name, address, etc. in addition to my own personal information that was asked for.

These local DME suppliers were commenting not just on xPAP but all forms of DME, oxygen, walkers, hospital beds, etc. I really wanted to post my comments on the xPAP and oxygen DME, service and supplies since I've had xPAP experience w/a sheister local DME, a good local DME and I've bought online plus I've read of the experiences of so many other xPAPpers in these forums to verify that my experiences are not that unusual.

And I "can" be diplomatic on occasion, which is what would be necessary to reach their audience and have them listen and think about what is said.

Despite I am not one of Senator Roberts' constituents I am going to look up his address and send my comments to him w/a copy to my own Senator.

Gee... online retailers of PAP equipment are bad? Because they offer no user support and leave the buyer hanging without proper guidance and answers?

That sounds more like they described doctors, RT's and the DME's. They, collectively and individually, revealed to me that they know less than the average very proactive xPAP user about the overall beneficial treatment of individual OSA.

I've received far more spot-on valid and effective-for-me answers on this forum, and from http://www.youneedsleep.com in two months than I received from the whole of my medical handlers in treating my OSA in almost six years.

Let's tally my experiences:

Online retailers and this board => 2-months-plus of highly effective therapy

Medical professionals overall => 5-years-plus of woefully ineffective therapy

DING! DING! DING! Online wins.

anytime a competitor infringes on ones lively hood they are going to squawk, that is what you are seeing on competingbid.com.

Can we expect anything out of this? NO

Do we think Sen. Roberts is going to protect us? and look out for the uninsured patient interests? hell NO

This is all about money and politics and how much they can continue to get from Medicare, the HME industry has far too many in Washington lobbyists for us to believe there is hope for the patient, we are not even a nat on the wall much less a fly.

About the only thing we have on our side is the AARP and they are probably not even aware of this other medical rip-off going on, a legal license to steal it is.

We should invite Sen. Roberts over here for a chat if you want to see the HME scream bloody murder.

What I can't understand is we all know more than half of those pork bellies in Washington have OSA, some have got to be on the machine but I bet they didn't pay a dime for their equipment or tests.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

H*ll, they have FREE medical care for the rest of their lives, PLUS full salary retirement after what? ONE term? TWO terms? All they have to do is sucker their constituents into voting them in office for four year, six years, eight years maximum.

How'd you like to work just 8 weeks and then retire at full salary with full free medical care for the rest of your life?

I forget where I read it now, back in high school in government class, something to the effect "Congress shall pass no .... " laws or whatever setting them above the people, above legal sanctions, I forget the exact terms.

Why do you think they bounced the military and the postal service out of Civil Service benefits?

Congress should be subject to and part of Social Security and Medicare the same as the rest of us. We wouldn't have to worry about either going bankrupt then!
