Encore Pro 1.7 question...this one I haven't seen - HELP

Post by sleepless_in_ny » Sun Jun 17, 2007 1:19 pm

Hello to all

I am hoping that someone here is computer savvy and can help me.

A while back I went to install Encore Pro 1.7 all was going along okay then I got a message about allowing access to msql server or some such and freaked. I stopped the process as I didn't know what that was. I took out what went in.

Now I decided with a little more confidence and understanding that this server question was related to the installation, to try again.

Now I can't get past the beginning. It only will allow an upgrade and not a typical install. It shows 3 servers (one asks for a password) and no matter which, it says connection to server has failed. It is detecting a previous version, but I am unable to find it and says to contact customer service, of course I can't.

Anyone out there that has a clue to this situation and how to remedy it? Please send a PM or post. I really need someone to walk me thru this.

I am now kicking my self for fooling with removal of what was put in originally but hope that there is a remedy.

Thanks

Try fully uninstalling Encore in the Add/Remove Programs area and also fully uninstall SQL Server. Then your installation should proceed as if you're putting the disc in for the first time.

I conquer with BLARG. Un-install everything so there is no "path-specific" coinfusiuon within.

The problem is that I am unable to uninstall, seems there was an error in the initial installation. When I go to the link for help it is overwhelming and over my head to fix. So I am now stuck with a card reader and nothing to read.

I made an error in my original installation(s) by not following sleepy-in-al's installation instructions
viewtopic.php?t=10149 completely. I managed to recover by using
Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs to remove Encore Pro 1.6, Smart Card Reader Software. Click on the name and then do remove. (My memory is fuzzy but I think this is what I did!).

Then reboot the computer and start over using sleepy-in-al's instructions
viewtopic.php?t=10149 .

Once you have got Encore Pro installed, you might find

Good luck

unfortunately I am unable to remove it using add/remove. Seems that the version that I have 1.7, there is a bug int he msql server that it uses and the link that it gives to fix is overwhelming.

I need a programmer person to do this. Even Blarg thought it was a lot to handle.

But I appreciate your suggestions.

Go into Add/Remove and remove:
1. Encore Pro
2. SQL Server.

If you get an error post the _exact_ error you get here.

PS Programmers create/design software, what your looking for is an admin or IT type not a programmer Although most programmers could probably help ...

Thanks for the clarification.

This is the link that is given for help when I try to remove it in the add/remove programs

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830477

I am hesitant to mess with this without someone that knows about this stuff. So I guess I am stuck for awhile.

It's both. And I thought it was a lot for someone who isn't comfortable at the command line to be messing with.

I see two options:

1. Follow the directions given my Microsoft to fix the problem (preferred)

or

2. Delete all the files related to SQL, hope for the best, and try to reinstall
