Card Reader and software

Post by inpjs66 » Wed Mar 07, 2007 2:59 am

I am new to using Cpap and have been reading a lot of differnent articles about the card reader and software. Do you need to software to be able to read the card? I looked up a card reader for S8 Resmed series for about 60 dollars, but do I need the software also?

Yes, you'd need the reader and the software to actually read the card.

Since you have an S8, you'd be looking for Autoscan. I'm not sure if your machine has the right connectors but some use a cable to connect their machine directly to the computer as well. Either way you'll need Autoscan.

Well I gues I will not be getting neither as Resmed does not allow patients to purchase the software, it is for clinicians only.

I'm just full of dissapointments this morning.

They say that, inpjs, but that's what the other CPAP software manufacturers say, too. The software IS intended for clinical use, but it is perfectly legal for patients to use it. ResMed and Respironics simply won't offer support on their software to users, that's all. You can buy it from a distributor in Australia. I'll look for a link that will give you more info.

If all else fails, you still have access to your data via the LED and all you need to do is develop a log to post your numbers on daily.

I agree w/DreamStalker. I LOVE being able to access my nightly Pressure, Leak, AHI, AI and HIs via the good size, easy to read LED screen on my Resmed S8 Elite. And it is so easy to do. Just press the Left and Right buttons for 3-4 seconds, the rest is pretty self-explanatory. The Up and Down buttons are used to maneuver thru this menu. It also allows access to your Usage Data, the number of nights used, the total number of hours used and the hours used that night. (You do have to access these menus before noon tho as these machines work on a 24 hour, noon to noon, clock). You can also check weekly, monthly, 6 month and yearly averages (when and if you used your machine that long). I could have been very happy w/just that info EXCEPT that I'm nosey and just "had" to know what other data was available to my DME and sleep lab so, of course, I ended up buying the software and reader cable.

And you don't have to worry about messing up your pressure settings, etc. You can't change anything in the Efficacy Data and Usage Data menus.

I just ordered the software from another US CPAP site today and it has already been shipped.
