odd question: were you a bed wetter as a child?
I was talking to two friends who both have apnea. One mentioned that he was snoring even as a little child. He also mentioned that he slept so hard he never woke during the night to use the bathroom and was a bed wetter until about age 7.
The other friend said she was too. Light bulb moment! Me too!
My dad has apnea. I called him and sure enough, he was a bed wetter as a child. Is this as common as it appears? Thats 4 out of 4 of us.

I just called my younger sister. In thinking about the bed wetting/sleep apnea connection, I remembered my niece was a bed wetter until about 7 also. I explained the situation to my sis, and sure enough, she said my niece "holds here breath" during the night!
I am going out to see them this weekend and will sit down with my sister and niece and talk to them about going in for testing. I'm going to bring "Sleeping with the Enemy" with me!
This is interesting!

bed wetting
I wet the bed until age 10 and my sister did until age 7.
I have an Uncle that did until age 18. Is it "genetitary?"
My sister ended up with 1 out of 4 of her children that wet the bed and his Dr. was on board with the theory that bedwetters are missing that special ingredient that concentrates your urine. Interesting***

bed wetters
None in my family.
Maybe we are late-bloomers to the apnea scene. No apnea as children.
(Please forgive the bloomers thing.)

I have no idea when my snoring began. But, yep, I was a bedwetter up until age 8 and have lived w/frequency all my life and with frequent urgency as well tho, thank God, w/o "accidents" since the age of 8.
However, I would qualify that as my sister and I had a sledding accident when I was preschool and I was treated for 6 months w/sulfa medications until the only doctor left in town was a DO. Back then many considered DOs "quacks" but in desperation my dad finally took me to the DO. He said I had a tipped pelvis, did some manipulation (which I vividly remember! What little girl DOESN'T remember having to strip to her underpants and then have some stranger in a white coat grab her two butt cheeks and try to split her up the middle??!!). But no more pain from that moment on. Altho I still wet the bed until, another town, another DO, who said my pelvis was still somewhat tipped. Another manipulation and never wet the bed again. Just the frequency and urgency since.
I will say until xPAP I don't remember a night I wasn't up 3-4 times to piddle. Until a whiplash in 1994 I was always able to go right back to sleep. My sleep problems began with that whiplash. W/xPAP I still get up once a night to piddle but only once which is a great treat in and of itself.
If only I could have figured a way to bottle and sell that urine all those years .....

Women are Angels. And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly.....on a broomstick. We are flexible like that.

A More Defined Question
Maybe a more targeted approach, such as in a new thread with a poll ...
Title: Childhood Sleep Apnea and Bedwetting Poll
Yes, I had symptoms of sleep apnea as a child, and
I was a bedwetter
I was not a bedwetter
No, I did not have symptoms of sleep apnea as a child, and
I was a bedwetter.
I was not a bedwetter.
This would reduce the crossover data, although bedwetting has so many other potential causes it still would not be scientific. But more tightly defined questions will better show any patterns. Cannot combine the two categories because then the poll can't show which of the two groups said yes or no to bedwetting. I would do the poll, but don't want to hijack someone else's topic. I have an interest in the answers though due to a bedwetting family member that I believe is symptomatic.

Wow, this is INTEResting! I wet the bed until around age 8-9, very incidentally about the same time I had my tonsils & adenoids removed (repeated earaches, not one since), but I have no memory of anyone ever saying I snored. My bro. has apnea also (I'm in early 60's, he's 60) but don't remember him snoring and pretty sure he wasn't a wetter. If someone can make anything of all this, feel free! Also interesting is that another poster said her apnea started with a whiplash, and many apnea pts carry their heads a bit forward on their necks, which makes me wonder about something very instrinsic to the area, possibly even in the brain stem, though I have no idea what. Any ideas Dr. Bandage or ??
