What's a good mask for a small face?

Post by Godsgirl » Sun Jan 28, 2007 12:25 pm

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently using an Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask size small but it is too big for me especially on the bottom half. I'm hoping someone out there has a small face too and is having success with their full face mask. If anyone knows of a good full face for a small face, please write me???? I've been searching and reading on all the suppliers websites but it's so hard to tell which mask might be good. I appreciate any help from anyone!!! Thanks!!!

I've used the Ultra Mirage, and I know it is a bit bulky.

However, I can only offer a *guess* on this, but you may want to look into the Soyala Full Face Mask. It is finally available, and I've seen it on the internet for as low as $169.

I wear the Soyala nasal mask, and not only is it an outstanding mask that is very comfortable, it is also very compact . It appears that the Full Face version (which some folks thought might be called the "Yara") is also very compact. I intend on trying the Soyala FF very soon myself, and at that time I might be able to give a more definitive opinion.

I'll post my results here!

I have a very petite face. In fact, it's so petite that I have to buy children's eye glasses/sun glasses. I first started out with the Respironics Comfort Gel (petite). It worked fine, but I needed something that I could put more side pressure on and not lose suction. I now use a Resmed Mirage Activa (small, size shallow). It's a much bigger mask, but I have no problem keeping a seal. Even when I mash my face into the pillow. The mask itself gives way, but the seal stays put. I love it.

I would recommend either one of these masks, depending on the way you sleep.

Hello....I am struggling with the same issue as you. Very petite face and now I have to move to a full face mask. I noticed you were looking for full face mask recommendations and everyone on here posted nasal masks. I would not recommend the swift pillows for a petite face espically if you have a small nose...the size small is much too big and will drive you nuts! I am currently using the Comfort Gel mask in a Petite and it is wonderful, but I can not stop the mouth breathing and have tried chin straps and I refuse to tape my mouth shut!

I will let you know what I foind out today from the RT about a small full face mask.

Good luck!

Here is my feedback.......

I had a great experience last night with one of the FF masks I took home, I kept it on for 5 hours (which is a record for me). I tried on 3 masks.....Fisher & Paykel - FlexiFit HC431 Full Face Mask, Respironics - ComfortFull 2 Full Face, and Resmed - Ultra Mirage Full Face. I ended up taking home the ComfortFull 2 and the Ultra Mirage Full Face.

The Flexfit mask was huge and fit around the bottom of your chin rather than at the bottom of your lip line. It was large and bulky and we could not get a seal around the top of my nose.

The ComfortFull 2 I took home in a medium with a small face pillow. I tried on this mask in a small and it was really small....it put a lot of pressure on the bridge of my nose. This mask created a good seal but it is very bulky and stands out a couple inches off my face.

The Ultra Mirage FF I took home in a small. This mask seemed to be the most comfortable especially the forehead pads. It is very thin and less bulky than the ComfortFull so this is the one I slept with last night. I had very little adjusting to do when I laid on my side and it did not leave marks on my face. Overall I am very satisfied with this mask so far....I will keep you posted.

You may want to try the the Small/Shallow size in the Ultra Mirage FF, ComfortFull 2 in a size small (it was very tiny and would probably work for you.)or the Hans Rudolph FF (it comes in petite but my RT said he has trouble fitting it to people)...it was very tiny and would probably work for you.

Hope my information helps!

before you waste your money, you need to find your Vertical dimension. You hold a ruler up in a mirror and measure from the center of the pupil of the eye to the center of the indention in the chin (as shown below).

With that measurement you can find out if a FF mask is going to fit before purchase. These masks are way too expensive to get it wrong.

I would think that dimension would have to be between 3.0" and 3.25" for the Small to work for you. If your V dimension is less than 3.0" I doubt it would work for you.

And you have to be careful with some of the on-line mask reviews...
