Pressure setting

Post by inyourdreams » Sun Oct 23, 2022 1:07 pm

I have been using CPAP for over 10 years. Always used a F&P 360 nasal pillow mask but losing air due to my mouth dropping open in deep sleep. Switched to a Dreamwear mask and it fits well but once it reaches my pressure of 16, it starts leaking at sides of my face. I would like to drop the pressure to 14 and see if that solves the issue. I have tried cervical collars, etc. but honestly I am tired of all the extra paraphernalia-I just want to put the mask on, sleep and wake refreshed. Would it be safe for me to lower my pressure a bit?

It would be nice if you showed us some data, but depending on your nightly AHI, lowering your pressure may allow more apnea events. What machine are you using? Fixed pressure or Variable? What are your settings? What is your average AHI? What Dreamwear mask did you switch to?

I am using a ResMed Airsense 11. This is the best I could do for the report. Also I am using a Dreamwear Full Face Mask by Phillips. It fits fine with no leaks until it gets to high pressure which is why I want to know if I can turn the pressure down a bit? The pressure it fixed at 16.

With an AHI as low as yours, it shouldn't hurt to turn down the pressure...but...watch the AHI...You say the pressure is good UNTIL it gets increased to 16, but you say you are at a FIXED pressure. The pressure should be at 16 throughout the night. Very Confusing...

if you would, you can download the oscar software to generate some charts for the experts to have a look at. oscar produces much more data that will help others help you.

good luck!

That is the way it was explained to me - continuous pressure at 16. The machine ramps up for five minutes and holds steady at 16 throughout the night. These are all questions I should be asking my sleep specialist but, quite frankly, i have never been impressed with them. Unfortunately, they are the only sleep clinic close to me and don’t get me started on their DME provider. I have not had a sleep study done since the original study performed over 10 years ago. I asked about that during my last visit and was told unless they see a problem, they never repeat a sleep study. I feel like I am strictly on my own.

The data you are providing isn't all that useful. There are a lot of unknowns.

If you want quality answers, than you need to provide good information.

To do so:
  • Put an SD Card in your machine, i it doesn't have one.
  • Download and install OSCAR ( https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/ )
  • Post some charts
If you need advice on any of the above ask
Take a look through some of the other members topics. Quality advice is being provided based on observations of the data.
