URGENT:How to tell if Comfortlite2 or Breeze are new or used
I bought a breeze and a comfortlite2 on ebay, and the guy said they are new. I asked if they are factory sealed, and he said they do not come factory sealed.
Every mask I have had came in a welded plastic bag to tell if it had been used. Since I have never had these, I can't be 100% certain of how they are packed at the factory.
If you have a brand new one of either of these, can you explain in detail what part(s) are in sealed bags so I can confirm that these are really new? He is supposed to ship Monday AM, so this is an urgent request.
Thanks.
Dave

I got my CL2 from my DME. The nasal pillows and cushions were in a sealed bag. I don't remember about the headgear and mask itself.

My breaze came from a shabby looking box which led me to believe it wasn't quite new. I imagine they have to trial them on the new people and then are not going to just throw them away. I am even a little curious about the sealed stuff. It is easy enough to seal a plastic bag....not that I'm paranoid.
Believ me they come in sealed bags & the pillows are further sealed within the big sealed bag.
If you want I can do some photos of the CL2 bags & post them on my website.
I would say that the person has 'misspoke' in regard to the sealing & it is up to you trust what the seller says re them being new. They may have been used once or twice - personally that would never bother me unduly as I would douche them in vinegar anyway

I al scratch my head when someone comes on alarmed that a PAP or mask may be used.
SO what is a unit was rented or a mask was tried on or actually used a dew times???
Clean iy with soap and water and go about your life.
I could understand a DME providing a unit slightly used and billing it as new, but this is an economic, not a health issue,

I have purchased several Comfort-Lite (both original and CL2) and all of them were in a sealed plastic bag. However, some suppliers only provide ONE size of nasal pillows/dreamseal cushion. This means that they had to open the bag to remove the other sizes (that were included in the bag at the factory) BEFORE they give it to you. Not all suppliers do this, but some do.
Breeze, however, comes in a box and the headgear is not in plastic. The nasal pillows (not the plenum, just the 2 little pillows) ARE in a sealed plastic bag. The straps that attach to the headgear are folded up with a strip of heavy paper wrapped around the middle of the fold, much like a strip of paper that holds a stack of paper money.

Buy a new hat, drink a good wine, treat yourself, and someone you love, to a new bauble, live while you are alive... you never know when the mid-town bus is going to have your name written across its front bumper!

If I had a sterilization system at home, I would not mind used either. If I was confident that the seller was a reputable DME who had sterilized before the sale, i would be fine with used.
Since I don't know the medical condition of the people who may have breathed in it while trying it on, I'M not willing to risk my life or health as a petri dish for whatever is in the folds of the tubing - especially to save a few bucks.
Why do you think the manufacturers provide sterilization instructions if soap and water will do the job? Why do they make disposable masks for hospitals if soap and water will make them good as new?
Come to think of it, why are hypodermic needles disposable? We sure are wasting a lot of money!
Sorry to vent, but the idea, that washing convoluted tubing with soap and water eliminates the risk of infection, is downright dangerous.
Dave
Dave, we live in a disposable society, so much waste.
We are all concerned about cleanliness and safety issues but think about this, you eat at restaurants using utensils other people have put in their mouths hoping they have been properly washed before you use them. At least at home you have the opportunity to completely clean anything suspect,

Manufacturers provide steri. instructions because if they didn't, and you did pick up something serious (the chances are remote as s0 many bacteria die on exposure to air long before you ever get the mask, and the vast majority of people in fact are relatively clean and don't have ghastly diseases) their LAWYERS would be all over them for leaving themselves open to suits, as would their INSCE co's for having to possibly pay out lots of money. Do you think they intrinsically care about you otherwise? Cynical, maybe, but true.
Bonnie,
How right you are.
I have, in my history of life experiences, had the "delight" to experience the school cafateria dishwasher up close and personal.
Now, the lengh of time those dishes are in there and the "care" taken to make sure the machine runs properly and has a full supply of soap etc.... makes me quite certain that they cannot be sterilized or even completely clean for that matter.
Not that I want to be wearing a mask or putting something in my mouth from a questionable source, but every day we are exposed to germs right or wrong.
