What has everybody affected by the recall done?
What has everybody affected by the recall done?
Specifically, what did you do from the time of the recall until you got a replacement.
Here are the possibilities (I think the list is exhaustive):
1. I temporarily discontinued treatment for Sleep Apnea. I resumed/will resume when I got/will get a replacement machine.
2. I permanently discontinued treatment for Sleep Apnea.
3. I permanently switched to a non-CPAP treatment (please state which one).
4. I temporarily switched to a non-CPAP treatment (please state which one). I resumed/will resume CPAP when I got/will get a replacement.
5. I continued to use the affected machine anyhow.
6. I used a spare machine (an old one, a travel machine, etc.). Please state if it was an old machine, a travel machine, or other. This choice presumes that you got or expect to get a replacement at some point.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
My DS1 was only a shade over a year old, never used ozone, and no evidence of any black flaking. Registered the DS1 in June '21 and continued to use until the replacement came in Oct '21. Shipped the recalled DS1 back to Philips.

Firstly I haven't gotten a replacement. Perhaps you've forgotten many or even most people haven't.
Secondly your "exhaustive list" is missing an option 7 - buy a non-recalled machine and use it.

Actually, that's a replacement. I did not necessarily mean a replacement provided by the recall program.
Also, you'll notice I provided a future tense alternative in my wording!

It might be interesting to see how many have abandoned the respironics brand--
Or would, if they could.

Switched to the Resmed Aircurve. Keeping the Dreamstation as a spare. The Dreamstation works fine and i feel safe using it after replacing the air chamber with one without foam.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
I would not have chosen to use another Philips CPAP, but a brand new DS2 showed up for free. My DS1 was six years old anyhow. I was in the process of replacing it, but that unannounced arrival of the DS2 torpedoed that. I have to say that it does seem to be a good machine.
My main complaint was that it did not support OSCAR, but that will be fixed very soon (thanks to the devotion of the OSCAR developers).
My other problem is that the clips on the tank lid and the fitting on the tank for those clips appear rather flimsy. I'm afraid that they might break, especially when I start traveling again.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
At first I reverted back to my "backup machine", but after a month... I could see that this would be a long wait (and I have proved to be right as I am still waiting).
Given my CPAP machine was about 3 years old - I just decided to move on and purchase the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet. Couldn't be more happier - IMO, it's better than my previous DreamStation. But if I can get my DreamStation fixed - it will become my newer "backup" machine.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
When I learned about this:
It was in September when my then DME supplier notified me of the recall. After a number of testy exchanges, they claimed that their software failed to notify a small number of patients in a timely manner and that Philips had a similar issue, particularly with patine ts with older machines.
I began to seek a new DME supplier, as this was on my list to do anyhow. Registered my machine for the recall and immediately stopped using it.
I never used ozone but I did notice black bits in the tube mask area over the summer (ironically likely around the time the recall was announces). I honestly thought it was mildew, because it was summer, hot, humid, and I'm notoriously lax in my cleaning.
Found a new DME, been on a waitlist for a new machine since switching in October, 2021.
Been using my AirMini since Sept, 2021.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
If you can afford it, get a resmed autoset; even if it is out of pocket.
It is your HEALTH, after all. That is priceless.
You can still hold respironics to their recall, but after using the Airmini,
you may no longer be comfortable with the inferior respironics algorithm.
You can always use the P-R thing (I hate to call it a cpap) as a backup,
or give it to a person in need.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
Really, the reason I would not have gotten another Philips is because my confidence in that brand was shattered by the recall. A defect that extensive and going on for that long reflects very negatively on the company. Also, the way they handled the recall didn't help!
However, I never smelled anything bad, saw any particles, or experienced any of the symptoms described from my DS1. I simply reverted to an older machine when I learned of the recall in an abundance of caution. Likewise, the DS2 seems to be a good machine.
In summary, the reasons for my loss of confidence in the brand are not because of any first-hand issues.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
I continued to use my Dreamstation until I got a ResMed. I suppose I will eventually receive a Dreamstation 2, which I will keep as backup, hoping that I never, ever need to use it as I like the ResMed WAY better.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
I continued to use my DS1 for several months (never used ozone cleaner, no black particles, etc.). Was able to procure an older ResMed S9 and started using it. Still waiting for a replacement to arrive.
No problem using either ResMed or Respironics, both work well for me. If I get a DS2 I assume it would work the same as my old DS1. Hoping I get a replacement soon as the S9 is noticeably louder than my DS1.

Re: What has everybody affected by the recall done?
They might send a re-manufactured DS1. I would think that this would be an OK machine as well.jas32 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 10:32 pmI continued to use my DS1 for several months (never used ozone cleaner, no black particles, etc.). 7. I obtained Resmed to continue therapy. Replaced/repaired (if ever) Philips will become spare.
