Puzzled by Pressures
Puzzled by Pressures
My REMstar Auto (System One 60 Series) when set at a Fixed 8.5 (cmH2O), is showing "Pressure set: 11.5" in Oscar software. Anyone know why? BTW, this is my first post in a long time. I joined this board 15 years ago. I've searched the Internet for an answer-zilch. This board has some very savvy people, so once again, I turn to you.

You didn't hide the calendar. I need to see the machine settings below the statistics.

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
I can't see your most recent image as it requires a log in password
but I think your problem is the cpap check mode you are using.
http://incenter.medical.philips.com/doc ... %3d9752807
It may be set at 8.5 but using that mode will cause the machine to increase the pressure if it thinks you need it.
It's giving you 11.5 so it must think you need it.
I would get out of that mode and use just regular cpap mode.

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
I can see the image now and it confirms what I suspected.
I think that while the "official" setting is probably 8.5 if you go into the machine that is what you will likely see....the cpap check mode way of doing things has essentially decided it wants you to use something else.
It's obvious from the pressure graph that you are seeing 11.5 fixed with the slightly lower pressure on exhale being a result of the Flex setting.
So that explains the weird picture and reporting....now if you are sleeping great and feeling great it probably doesn't hurt anything to use it.

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
Thanks for looking at this. I'd like to know more about "CPAP flex". The link "http://incenter.medical.philips.com/doc ... %3D9752807" is not working for me, however.

I should have said, "CPAP check mode".

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
I found this on another board, "The patient's user's manual says this about C-Check:
"CPAP Check (C-Check) - If available on your device, this mode delivers CPAP therapy while automatically adjusting the pressure level to meet your needs. Pressure adjustments while in CPAP-Check mode are more gradual than those that occur in Auto-Trial mode and the amount of adjustment that can be made over time is limited."
That's wild. "CPAP Check" adjusts the pressure even though you set the machine to "Fixed". How the hell do you know what you will get?

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
Not sure why the link doesn't work for you...it works for me just fine
http://incenter.medical.philips.com/doc ... %3D9752807
But I got to it with a google search for "system one cpap check mode" and I started reading.
https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... Check+mode
But I took a screen shot.
Apparently it is an option for the auto adjusting capable machines...so instead of auto/apap mode where it will auto adjust all night long it does this fixed thing.
Bunch of hooey IMHO. I prefer regular auto mode instead of using a higher pressure all night just because the machine thinks I need a higher pressure all night.

You might go to the above link and request the provider/clinical manual for your machine.
It's all explained in the manual.

Re: Puzzled by Pressures
Thanks very much, Pugsy. I watched the YouTube on CPAP Check Mode. I had already found the user manual for my machine and learned, "• CPAP-Check – If available on your device, this mode delivers CPAP therapy while automatically adjusting the pressure level to meet your needs. Pressure adjustments while in CPAP-Check mode are more gradual than those that occur in Auto-Trial mode and the amount of adjustment that can be made over time is limited.
Since the CPAP Check Mode has decided that my pressure should be 11.5 cm, I'm going to test by setting the pressure to 10 cm in the CPAP Test Mode and see what happens.
I've gained a lot of insight from our exchange. I thought I'd be able lo get answers on this forum.
THANK YOU
