Oh, thanks, Julie! I realize I was looking at viper’s posts while I was writing my post, and of course then the information doesn’t appear.

I would be looking at all those spontaneous arousals....and wondering about overall sleep quality with cpap.

Try to fix the known problem that we know is fixable with optimal cpap therapy first and then see what is left over that might still be a problem.

Gotta start somewhere. We already know the OSA needs to be fixed...so fix it and see what is left that still might be happening that is causing a problem.

Hi is it normal 4.5 years ago I noticed that I wake up at least 6-8 time a night and fall back a sleep within 1-5min each times, but sometimes I will stay up for 2-3 hrs before I fall back asleep. So four days ago I starting to use the CPAP machine I steay in bed for 11hr and only sleep around 4-6hr a night but have the same pattern every hour I wake up and fall back to sleep within 1-5min and sometimes 2-3hr before I fall back asleep. Is it normal to sleep like this
Thanks

It is normal to wake after a REM sleep cycle is completed. Most of the time we aren't awake long enough to form a memory though and even if we did we usually get only 3 to 5 REM cycles during a night.

It's not normal to do what you are doing though.

Sounds like sleep maintenance insomnia and the list of potential culprits is miles long and sleep apnea is but one item on that miles long list.

Thanks for sharing the information, viper. A handful of short awakenings during the night is not unusual. It's your longer awakenings that would be problematic.

Do you have access to a laptop or desktop? If so, please consider downloading the Oscar software as Julie has suggested (see link below). You will also need an SD card in your PAP machine and a way to read the card (slot in your computer or plug-in card reader). If you hit any snags, we can help you.

If you then post a screenshot of a Daily chart in Oscar, people here can help you interpret the data and perhaps change your settings so that they work for you in the best possible way.

A few people start using a PAP machine and feel like a million bucks right away, but for most of us, it's a slower process. So patience will serve you well. Again, seeing some Oscar data will really help us help you.

Yes, you can, though you'd probably be more comfortable with a nasal interface. Viper, I wonder whether you could follow up on some of the questions people have asked you. That would be very helpful!

Just downloading Oscar now and getting a SD card. Will post updates soon.
Do u think that using the full face mask for nose breathing is causing me to wake up hourly? I tried the nasal mask and I slept 4 hrs and the nasal pillow I slept 2.5 hrs

Glad to hear you're working on the Oscar front. I don't myself think using a FFM while nose-breathing would cause wake-ups, but that said, anything that your brain and body find annoying might take its toll on your sleep.

If you didn't have large leaks with the two nasal interfaces, why don't you give them another try? As with anything new, it could definitely take more than one night to get used to the different feel, compared with the FFM you're a little more used to. Using them while awake in the daytime or evening, as you watch TV or read, could help speed up your adaptation.
