Mask prescription

Post by Batty1 » Wed Nov 13, 2019 3:41 pm

My sleep doctor told me yesterday I did not need a script to purchase a new mask online since the mask isn't the therapy the sleep machine is. Today I went to cpap.com and they require a script for a mask, why would they care that I spend money on a mask obviously I have a sleep machine or I wouldn't be looking at masks.

Just curious.

Your doctor doesn't quite understand how things work with online buying.
Complete mask packages come with a big Rx symbol on them which means a prescription is indeed required to purchase them.
Replacement parts don't require a Rx.
Obviously no one in their right mind would go buying a cpap mask unless they needed it and most likely had a RX for it but it's the law....stupid as it is.

Cpap.com has to abide by the laws governing the sale of anything that has a Rx on it or a Rx is required to purchase.
I am sure they would rather not have to mess with that little detail but until the FDA changes the labeling of the packages....they will need to abide by the laws so that they can continue selling stuff.

Now there are some online sellers who choose to not abide by that federal law and probably nothing will happen to them because there are much worse laws to break and no one is likely to really care all that much.

Where are you based? They are not prescription items in Canada.

At my annual appt with my pulmonologist/sleep doc, I always ask for a paper scrip for cpap mask of my choice. Just in case. I had occasion to use it this week and uploaded it to the purchase site for an entire new mask. However, they said it takes a while to verify the prescription, so they would be sending my mask and headgear right away, but in two separate bags --- in the same box.

Weird.

My understanding is that you can't buy the 'starter kits' without a prescription.
You can buy the headsets and pillows without a prescription.
I ended up buying all the p30i parts when I wanted to change headsets rather then buying the 'p30i starter kit'.

Your understand is not quite right.
You can't buy a complete mask without prescription... whether it's a 'starter kit' or not.

You can buy all the mask parts, separately, without prescription, and assemble it your self.

Whole script for a cpap mask is weird but getting the required script and then having to wait for them to verify your script is just a waste of everyone's time....cpap addicts trying to buy cpap masks. It's funny

No Rx required for "pre-owned" items.
Or stuff sold off the back of a truck.
