First "full" night with machine. Please help me interpret results.

Post by The_Tool_Man » Mon Oct 07, 2019 8:07 am

Last night was my second night with the machine. I had the mask on for right at 6 hours. I usually sleep 7-8 hours and wake up tired, but I woke up after 6 and felt pretty well rested.

Using the N30i small cushion here. I felt like I wasn't getting enough air flow through the cushion. I think the small be too small for me. I've ordered a P30i size medium pillow from ebay. Graph is below. Please let me know your thoughts.

Spend any time on your back that you know of?

If it wasn't for the time between 1 and 1:30 the report wouldn't be all that exciting.
Do you happen to know if your OSA is worse in REM stage sleep? That would correspond with the cluster of hyponeas you see.
Either that or you were on your back maybe. We would assume you had other REM cycles later but no clustering then which is why I wonder about sleep position.

Try 8 cm minimum and see if it helps with the air starved situation.....and it will also help out if you were in REM or on your back in terms of preventing clusters like that from happening again.

I tend to rotate between my back and right side.

Hi Tool_Man,

One thing we encourage is for members to keep a single therapy topic, instead of many different topics. This way others can easily look at ones history. Maybe just continue using this one

As Pugsy suggested, many feel a little air-starved if the pressure is too low, an incorrectly fitted nasal cradle can also contribute to the the sensation of air starvation.

Consider:
  • Increasing Ramp pressure to 8
  • Setting minimum pressure to 8, we may want to consider setting this higher later as your pressure jumps well above 8 as soon as you'e out of Ramp and stays there.
  • Trying the Medium or Medium-Wide Nasal Cradle to see if it helps your breathing sensation.

For a bit of history just in case someone doesn't remember.
viewtopic.php?p=1324860#p1324860

OP is essentially DIYing things right now. Had a sleep study done some years ago which confirmed OSA but didn't do anything about it at that time.
It is simply more cost effective to DIY it right now.

Noted. And my apologies. I’ll keep things confined to this thread going forward.

I’ll change those settings this evening and see how things go.

If you can do away with ramp totally (or shorten it considerably) that would be better.
During ramp the machine won't respond or record anything. That's why you don't see any snores or FLs during the ramp time.
Doesn't mean nothing happened when you see that blank spot for snores or FLs during ramp.

I switched ramp time to five minutes and changed both minimum and ramp pressure to 8.

There's no point in having ramp at all if it starts at the same pressure.

I'd suggest you set your min pressure to 10, however, it will cause you to have less sleep disturbances.

You don't seem to understand RAMP.....In your example, you machine would start at 8 and over a period of 5 minutes it would run at 8. In that example ramp is doing nothing. Either turn off ramp, or leave it at 8 and increase your minimum to 10.

Got it. I actually did understand it, but my settings just didn’t make any sense. Thanks for the help.

Setting min and ramp at the same pressure doesn't make any sense... You're right!

I felt like I slept relatively well last night. But I woke up with a serious headache in my forhead and eyes. It feels like pressure in my head - not something I've experienced before. It's 6:30 pm right now and I've been feeling the pain all day. Any ideas what could cause this?

Might be a sinus headache.
