Anyone know what material is in heat moisture exchanger?

Curious if anyone knows what material they use to capture the moisture?

I researched this back when I first purchased an AirMini as I was curious what was being used in their HumidX product.

There's not a lot of detail out there, but the best information I could find is that the HME material is usually made of foam or paper (something hygroscopic) that may also be treated with salts. I would presume the salts assist with moisture exchange as they themselves are generally hygroscopic. They may also provide some antimicrobial properties.

Yeah wondering if maybe it's some sort of floral foam which is what they use and humidifiers in humidors

The ResMed HumidX product uses a paper-like material. From my experience, something like floral foam is probably too dense of a material, although I've never had hands on that style of HME.

I was thinking of making my own, if the floral foam is too dense I could always core out the center so it didn't restrict airflow but probably still moisten air. I would probably pre moisten the foam as well. I would still likely have to use a thin paper filter just to make sure fine particles from the foam didn't break free and going into my lungs.

Fine particles from the floral foam would be my other concern, but it sounds like you're taking that into consideration already. From experience, it's very "crumbly" for lack of a better description.

Yes in ER now lol waiting on CT results for my abdominal pain. Hopefully it's nothing and doesn't effect wedding.

ETA, diverticulitis is the cause no surgery at this time!
