SleepyHead crashing
Whenever I add notes to uh, notes, the app crashes. I can move from date to date, or various tab from within a date, but as soon as I leave the note content (having just copied and pasted from Open Office, I have no WP software) the entire Sleepy head crashes. And what's more when I return, the data I copied is gone. I have repated this about ten times today and am getting fed up. This was not happeneding nine days ago, when I last adedd notes.
I seem to have found the specific issue. I can add random (or same copied words from Apache Open Office) to any other date than today's and it remains. But whenever I add text to notes for today's date, the wheel spins and it crashes. Like clockwork.
BTW, I discovered that I have been adding my notes incorrectly, the date referes to the calendar date of the night when the sleep starts not when it ends.
Ah, the challenge of a non-techie working with an unsupported software (I read the inventor's site - sad story)

Re: SleepyHead crashing
Try OSCAR.....based on SleepyHead 1.1
I have no idea if it will have your notes causing crashing problem but it's worth a try.
That's one of the joys of using Beta software....it breaks sometimes. I could suggest ResScan but it won't even allow input of any notes at all.

Ah, very good - thank you.
Bizarre, after adding notes to the *day before* (7/27) the notes for 7-28 take instead of crashing the app.
Does Oscar allow for transferring all sleepy head data, so all previous records is not wasted?
Why doesn't someone take this to the next level (commercializing the app so there is a financial incentive to offer support and also create a smoother experience)?

Re: SleepyHead crashing
Yes, there is a provision/step in OSCAR that allows for importing of all prior data from SleepyHead backups.
You can use both SleepyHead and OSCAR if you wish.
I have SleepyHead 1.0 and 1.1 and OSCAR and ResScan available on my computer to mess with IF I want to. All depends on how much you want to mess with it.
I don't mess with it often. Never do any notes because I don't need or want to...
When I download I might take the time to download to all the software products or just a quick OSCAR download (it's the fastest).
As for your other question as to why no one has gone commercial with SH or whatever....I don't know the answer to that but I would never do it even if I could. The legality stuff alone would be a nightmare and ResMed would sue their own mother if they thought they could annoy her enough. One would need some really big bucks backing them and I just don't see it happening.
Remember we as the end users aren't really supposed to be seeing or understanding all the data the machines give us...we are just stupid peons.
ResScan used to be sold to the end user...So was the Respironics Encore Pro product....then someone decided we were too stupid to have it.

Re: SleepyHead crashing
Hi hermeshermes,
I know nothing about Apache Open Office, but I do know about moving text from various word processors into professional programs for the print industry such as Quark XPress or InDesign.
And the easiest way to import text files to those programs is to have them either in plain-text format (.txt) or in rich-text format (.rtf).
So the first thing you might try is: having first composed what you want to say in Open Office, see if that program has .txt or .rtf in its 'save as' options. And then having saved texts in those formats, try copying either or both into SH/ Notes.
I should add that I've never written or added anything to notes – I have never wanted to. But it did occur to me that that 'box' may have a word-count limit. Ie, if you directly type in 20 words, that's fine. If you copy over 200+ words, that's not so good.
You could try making entries of different word lengths yourself – see what you get.
PS. If Open Office won't let you save in either plain-text format or rich-text format, TextWrangler is a stand-alone way of doing format conversions.

I'm sorry to say, nobody cares about sleepyhead anymore, since Mr Watkins knifed bob the sheep in his sleep.hermeshermes wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 9:26 amAh, the challenge of a non-techie working with an unsupported software (I read the inventor's site - sad story)
The only sad story in the whole thing is that Mr Watkins refused to get help for his paranoia, and instead let it destroy sleepyhead.
Get Oscar, it's a project started *AFTER* the murder of bob the sheep, by the people that Mr Watkins threw off the sleephead project because they disagreed with him, by actually caring about the users.
Oscar isn't perfect, but it's improving on a daily basis.
Get OSCAR

Convert to OSCAR, add the notes.
Perhaps it's been addressed.
If it hasn't, then file a bug report and hopefully it will be addressed in a future OSCAR.
And commercializing an existing open source project, while keeping it open is full of challenges, making money being one of them. The commercially successful open source projects are very few and far between.

Because one can't just take somebody else open source, close it and commercialize. Why doesn't someone take this to the next level (commercializing the app so there is a financial incentive to offer support and also create a smoother experience)?

Re: SleepyHead crashing
yes, I must look into it - even download it as a trial. Still, the devil you know...
This evening printing out CPAP statistics for appointment with sleep MD (instead of RRT) I notice that nothing changes as I toggle the charts from last two weeks to the end of time. Shouldn't those bars change in number as one changes the duration to be represented?
I am not so comfortable with computers, and am concerned about this word 'migration' I don;t mind copying my data, but i want t be able t still use Sleepy head if I choose to. Does migration mean just copying (original data intact where it was both in Sleepy head and in SH backups of data, or does the data actually, well, *migrate*?
In other words it it analagous to cut and paste or copy and paste? Ah, the Oscar guide explains this - copy and paste.
I just changed one thing, wanting to put the Oscar app and data in my sleepy head folder (easier to remember keeping going as is) and I get a warning window about reading migration guide because I am already using sleepyhead. I found this odd (and actually a litle creepy -- to much like Google trying to read my mind) as all I am doing is selecting a folder. The software appeared to recognize the text name. Hello Hal...
Wel, I downloaded the app and I am not sure if I refused to migrate data or not. If I was given the choice I probably said 'no' because I first wanted info from the guide on what this would mean. After reading the guide it says that the ONLY time migration can be done automatically and fully is at this step (!) I tried just opening the app, expecting to get the migration tool but it doesn't apparently work this way. I am told I have to migrate data, but where is the migration tool?
Thus, I find this a bit techy. Too complicated to understand and do in 30 minutes. Also, not clear if the raw data is copied or also the notes and from which file. I have been manually backing up this data in Sleepy Head as '[Name] Sleep Journal', which I presumed was just the manual notes. Or is there one file that is both all the data and all the written notes?

The data ‘Migration’ takes a copy of your sleepyhead data and places the copy in a new location for OSCAR your Sleepyhead data is not touched

Re: SleepyHead crashing
That was Jedimark’s vision for Sleepyhead 2. When he started working on SH 1.1 he soon realized the original database code was a mess so he started from scratch for SH 2 and chose to cease development on SH 1.1.hermeshermes wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2019 9:43 amWhy doesn't someone take this to the next level (commercializing the app so there is a financial incentive to offer support and also create a smoother experience)?
A group of users first tried to release 1.1 anyway and finally forked it into a OSCAR.
The drama caused Jedimark to cease development on SH2. He hoped to have it modular so vendors could plug in their custom code.
Jedimark wrote Sleepyhead while suffering from Apnea and migraines. I think it is a wonder that it works as well as it does.

People *talked* about releasing sh 1.10 as an interim until 2.0 was ready, bit nothing *at all* was actually done.
The fork that created Oscar didn't happen until *after* Mr Watkins had his meltdown and killed the sleepyhead project.

Just because you did not know about it does not mean it did not happen. I was involved in it and there was SleepyHEad software patched by the same developers before Mark;s meltdown. In fact is CAUSED the meltdown.palerider wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 4:34 pmPeople *talked* about releasing sh 1.10 as an interim until 2.0 was ready, bit nothing *at all* was actually done.prodigyplace wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2019 4:18 amThat was Jedimark’s vision for Sleepyhead 2. True, They decided to do a legitimate fork.
Before the meltdown they would not even entertain the idea. I suggested it on several occasions.
