CL2 Interface Change

Post by jeepdoctor » Wed Oct 18, 2006 6:27 pm

On July 05, I began CPAP therapy with a CL2 and nasal pillows. I have been pleased overall. However, the nasal pillow interface is sensitive to leaks when I roll over from one side to the other.

My DME said it was time for a new interface if I so desired, so I requested a Direct Seal Cushion interface. When I tried it last night, I was frustrated to note that the direct seal and the pillow interfaces are different dimensionally, with the direct seal interface having a longer dimension from attachment point to tip of the soft plastic seal. With the height adjustment as short as possible, I was experiencing leaks. I finally "solved" this by moving the headgear and the straps higher on my head.

It seems silly that Respironics would make the direct seal interface to a different reference dimension and not make allowance in the up-down adjustment. Anyone have any idea why Respironics would have changed the reference dimension on the direct seal versus the pillow interface? Have any of our forum readers had similar problems with the direct seal interface?

The direct seal and the nasal pillows come with the CL2 mask so you should have gotten both interfaces with the mask on the original delivery.

I'm not sure why Respironics did that. Since every face is different maybe, they couldn't make a universal fit.

For side sleeping, I prefer the Resmed Activa.

A couple of garbage bag tyes stabilized the pillows for me.

For the "Simple Seal", I use an old chin-strap to "pull" the interface closer
to my face. I've never noticed the difference you mention. But I always start
with the down tube fully extended.

+ Aussie heated hose.

My understanding and experience is that when you order the CL 2 you get the simple cushion and either the nasal pillows or the direct seal, but not both. I have the pillows. Does anyone know I can just buy the direct seal, and use the same mask with the alternate seal? Just for a change....

Thanks

You "should" have gotten the nasal pillows (3 sizes) AND seals OR the nasal pillows (3 sizes) AND the nasal cushion (3 sizes).

I assume you purchased your CL2 thru your local B&M DME. Check the sales online at cpap.com and see what you "should" have gotten.

I told my DME that I liked my CL2 but after 3 weeks I was getting a sensitive nose and would like to try the nasal cushion instead. She "rummaged around" and found a medium and a small nasal cushion and gave them to me at no charge (I was prepared to remind her I "should" have gotten them at the time they sold me my CL2).

When she originally "sold" me my CL2 she only gave me the small and the medium nasal pillows. I didn't know then what I know now. It is just as well she did give me the two sizes tho as I've found the medium nasal pillows AND medium nasal cushion work better for me than the small.

Are you sure its 3 sizes. I'm sitting here reading the label on a sealed CL2 package, and it says:

Simple Cushion - 1x medium and 1x large
Nasal pillow - 1x medium and 1x large.

All of mine have been delivered with 2 sizes of 2 interfaces..

cpap dot com has the individual parts or the whole package.

Hells belles. I'm not sure of much of anything anymore! If that is what you got in your package I'd be willing to concede you are more correct than I was. At least I remembered correctly that the CL2 'should' come w/more than one size of 2 different interfaces.

Thanks for correcting me! So many B&M DMEs are good enough at getting themselves in hot water, they really don't need my help.

Whaddya mean "Go Colts"??? That should be "Go Pats!"

Hi jeepdoctor,

Try Rested Gals panty hose trick. My variation is that I double wrap the panty hose around the down tube just above the connection of the interface and above the exhaust holes. There is a ridge there that will not allow the panty hose to slip down over the exhaust holes (if you are worried about the hose slipping down then put a small rubber band around the down tube in the same location and feed the hose through it). Then tie the hose around your head to a comfortable level. Also, the simple cushion can swivel a bit where the soft part meets the hard part to provide even more adjustment.

Here is a link to a thread that shows Rested Gals Panty Hose modification plus other links to further customize the CL2.

And yes when I received my CL2 new in the bag, it had 2 sizes, 2 interfaces.

Good Luck

When I got my comfort lite 2 from the dme, it came with 3 sizes of both nasal, and direct seal cushions. i had alot of trouble with all the direct seals as you are having, but I am sorry I didn't keep it and try some different things with it. Now when I go to cpap. com I see it all sold separately........or I am I reading it wrong. I don't see a complete package, 3 of everything.........thanks Ellen:roll:

If you check the second page of this

http://global.respironics.com/UserGuide ... tLite2.pdf

you will see there are a lot of different packages available for the CL2. I got the "combo" with nasal pillows and simple cushion at cpap.com myself.

For me, the best interface I've found is the Direct Seal, size 5, and I am a side-sleeper. The trick is finding the correct size. My DME never measured me for it, but I got lucky with the sizes they mailed to me (a 5 and a 6, but 6 was too big). I believe there is a gauge that can be purchased, for those who are wary of taking a chance on getting the wrong size.
