Has this ever happened to anyone, and what to do if it has

Post by NorwichTerrier » Sun Feb 24, 2019 9:46 am

OK, so after doing all my nightly rituals last night, I was ready to hop into bed. I have the heated tubing, which we washed on Thursday morning, and it has been hanging for two plus days while I was using the older non-heated tube. I put the heated tubing on last night. I placed my mask on and turned on the machine. To my shock, I hear spluttering, crackling and somewhat gushing air, and all this seemed to be occurring right under my nose. At first, I thought the nose piece might not be completely dry. I switched that and still the noise had not stopped. I then thought there must be an issue with the heated tubing, so I exchanged it again with the regular tubing, and the issue was resolved - at least for last night. However, I prefer using the heated tubing, and I would like to know if there is any trick to getting it completely dry, which I would have expected to have occurred within two days. Could it be any other reason than moisture in the tubing that was causing this to happen? If it is moisture in the tubing, is there a fix? How long does it have to hang to dry to completely to be clear of any moisture? Thank you for any suggestions to solve this problem. Would a hair dryer help, or could that damage anything?

I have a new DreamStation with heated humidifier and heated tubing.

It depends on the ambient humidity and temperature of your house.

Hair dryer....be careful....too hot and it will melt the hose. I wouldn't risk it myself.

How often are you planning on washing the heated hose?

Ever clean the barrel of a gun??? In a pinch you can fix up something similar to snake through the hose and get the bulk of the water droplets out. Other than making annoying noise...the water in the hose won't hurt you but it can sure be annoying.
Get the bulk of the water out and it should dry out for the most part or at least enough to not create the annoying noise.

My machine has a mask warmup feature. I just run this to dry out my hose.

Thanks, Pugsy and Cynmatthes for the helpful advice, I will definitely not do the hair dryer thing. I'll ask hubby about the gun cleaning idea. I don't think I can stand wearing it while it is making those awful sounds and gushing the air into my nostrils. Cynmatthes - do you have a DreamStation, too, as I am not aware of the mask heat up option. The problem is in the tube - so would that help? Did you mean the pre-heating option? If so, do you think half an hour of preheating would take care of the problem?

Pugsy: You asked how often I plan on cleaning the heated tubing? After last night, I don't think very often. I will probably wait until my next order in April when I can have an alternate so that I can clean one and let it dry for a week or more and then switch it with the newer one. How often do you think it is necessary to clean the tubing?

I rarely, if ever wash my hose.
It is not needed.
Only filtered air and water vapor passes through it.

Doesn't the DreamStation have a minimum runtime to consider a session valid? I've been using the Check Mask Fit feature (with the head gear off) to dry the hose, but I bet there is a better way. chunkyfrog has a good point. I should clean the hose less often. :D

Cheers

I can't remember the last time I washed the hose....any hose. Does that tell you how necessary I might think cleaning the hose is?
A long time ago I did run some water through the hose but that was to check for leaks because I caught the cat playing with it and I was checking for leaking through holes caused by cat claws. Fortunately...none were found. She was gentle with it.

As soon as I wash mine, I'll be able to let you know how often it is.

My tank and mask weekly, maybe two.

I think I've had this one about 6 years... so.. um, every more than 6 years? Dunno, never cleaned it, don't see the need to.

Actually I looksd closer its humidifer warm up. It blows air through the hose so if mine isn't all the way dry I just run that. I have the aircurve vauto.

I have autoimmune issues so I probably clean mine more than most. I wash my hose every couple of weeks and I wipe my mask daily with rubbing alcohol.

I have washed my heated hose and if it's not dry by bedtime, I hook it up and turn the machine on and let the air blow through it to dry it (no mask). I just leave the hose on the bed, takes maybe 10-15 minutes and voila! Or wa-la, depending on where you're from.

Washing the tubing is not my usual thing. I will wash it after traveling. Just feel better knowing I removed all the OPG's.
