The filter mod is not blocking any air coming out of the vents so it does not reduce the venting of CO2 it just diffuses spreads out the flow so there is no direct blast to hit on things.babybear wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:30 pmHi Pugsy
I had question about the Dreamport venting and putting a homemade filter to diffuse. Would all the co2 still be able to come out of the vent? This is the only thing that makes me nervous. I would want something to spread out but not block the co2. Any recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I see you touched on the same subject on page 4. I thought I had read every page as I check every day but i must have missed the last page. Sorry to waste you're time.

Earlier, Pugsy said if you PM her she can send you a sample piece of the tape (while supplies last).elizabeth25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:36 pmTo Pugsy, djams, and PR
Can you say something about the adhesive? Does it remind you of other kinds of adhesives? I've never had a problem with a bandaid. But I often have problems with hospital tape. (Non-paper type.) I can't even use sensitive Breathe Right strips. They'd leave a red patch for a couple of days.
Although I like my P10 best, I do find the headgear fiddly in the middle of the night. And then that dislodges the pillows. I've got a lot of hair and it just doesn't stay put. I'm between M and L pillows and go back and forth, hoping expectantly.
Thanks for the reviews,
E25

Re: Bleep/DreamPort nasal mask review thread
A layer of gauze (pull a gauze pad apart) will diffuse it enough so it pretty much feels like the P10 diffusing and it still lets the carbon dioxide get expelled. That's what I did the very first night. I had an old piece of gauze left over from a tooth extraction.babybear wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:30 pmHi Pugsy

I was also a bit nervous and that's why I used only 1 layer of gauze material. All our cpap life we have had "don't block the vents" drilled into our heads and then the first thing we go and do...we sort of block the vents.

Then Palerider came up with using the mesh standard filter from a ResMed machine...did you see his picture of his little trick?
I didn't have any of the standard mesh ResMed filters, that I could find anyway, other than the denser hypo allergenic filters and didn't want to use it as it was and didn't want to pull it apart....so I opted to try a Resprionics System One Filter put on like Palerider did his...it works...a little small but it works.
Ultimately what is in the design plans (at least at this time) is a little clip on cover where a person snips off a piece of gauze and slides it over the vent holes and then the little clip holds the gauze in place. This comes from the manufacturer and they have tested it with the gauze as well as denser products and there is still enough air movement out the holes to not cause a carbon dioxide build up.
You just don't want to totally seal the holes like with tape or some plastic of some sort. The force of the vented air through the holes is sufficient for adequate ventilation as long as there is somewhere for the air to go.
Stuart even used a sock to test as a diffuser. Stuart (who came up with this mask) is a cpap user for over 22 years and he is also a sleep lab tech...he's well aware of the cautions and potential issues...if he is comfortable with these ideas then I am comfortable with them.
Hope this eases your mind some. If you look at palerider's picture of the resmed filter...you can see that it doesn't even come close to sealing shut the holes and actually if it was taped to the holes and as long as the tape didn't touch the holes...there is enough openness of the mesh filter to allow adequate venting. Heck...if Stuart can use a sock we can sure use mesh.

Yes, I used a filter, it's designed to let air through, after all.

I too have a problem with the plastic transpore tape the hospital likes to use, it leaves a lot of sticky residue, and sometimes irritation. So far, I haven't had any issues withe the dreamport adhesive.elizabeth25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:36 pmTo Pugsy, djams, and PR

Sometimes there's a tiny bit of residue, but it's easy to remove, and it hasn't caused any irritation.

I still have a small sheet of the adhesive and I can snail mail a small piece of it to anyone who wants to stick it on their nose and see if they get a reaction or not.
I have sent out a couple of pieces of it....but I still have enough of the sheet left to send more little pieces.

Re: Bleep/DreamPort nasal mask review thread
For me, the test is to feel the air coming out, it's cool till I exhale, then it's warm till all that air is flushed out, at which point it gets cool again till the next exhale. If the air is cool before I inhale again, I know all the exhaled air is gone.
I get the same effect with the p10 vent, so I figure I'm good with my filter diffuser, plus I ain't ded yet, (sorry ems).

Not much to add to what PR and Pugsy have said on this. Big YMMV topic here. Getting that sample from Pugsy is the best way to know for sure. I'm lucky in that my skin in neither sensitive nor oily. The tape is firmly in place for me every morning. I forgot to clean the tape area before I put the first port on one night. In the morning, it was still stuck on, just like the 2nd one - which I did clean.elizabeth25 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:36 pmTo Pugsy, djams, and PR

This looks really promising! Thanks for the reviews!
I have a nose ring and I wonder if the adhesive will seal well with it. What do you guys think?

I don't know. Would probably depend on the size of the nose ring for one thing and I have my doubts.....and the other thing might be the problem removing the adhesive IF it did stick to the nose ring. I am thinking that it might hurt and hurt a lot.total_nonsense wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 11:17 amThis looks really promising! Thanks for the reviews!

I honestly don't know what to say about this and I have zero way to test it out.
