New Dreamstation and Wisp mask and AHIs jumped significantly

Post by CpapWife » Mon Jul 09, 2018 2:26 am

DH got a new apap. He stayed with the Dreamstation as he has had the Phillips Respironics machines since he was diagnosed. Last one was the System One Remstar.
He did change masks also to a wisp mask. He has used many over the years (about 10 years now), using a nasal with the pillow over his nose and also a full face mask when his nose is stuffed up.

Since starting apap therapy, he went from about 91 ahi to about 1 (typically between .5 and 1.3).

With his new dreamstation, while a couple days the first week the AHIs were about 1.5 or 2.5, most days he is between 4-11 AHI. There doesn't seem to be a pattern but it might be positional or REM sleep (original diagnosis thought he had more during REM sleep). He is primarily hypoapnea with occasional central/clear airway. I do notice more snoring with the new setup but it is pretty sparse and there was some with the old setup.

Attached is:
Encore report for 3/10/18 of his older setup - 1.4 AHI (this was one we had handy).

Sleepytime report for 7/4/18 of new setup - 10.27 AHI (a high AHI day).

Sleepytime report for 7/6/18 of new setup - 3.40 AHI (a low AHI day).

Hypoapneas have always been higher than other types.
DH does shift work so sleeps early morning to early afternoon typically.
Other than apap and mask no other real differences.

Thanks for any insights.

sorry, but no reports came through. you may want to try again.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Sorry, attachments now there. This is my first time doing attachments though I read the thread on it, so anything else needed just let me know.

Doing one for last night - I noticed more reports including a flow report.

Also, I noticed last night that DH was laying on his side and there was a quiet hiss from the mask at 8:43 am and also 11:40 am. These seemed to be high AHI times. We will do more tests with him laying in different positions and pretending to sleep. He uses a buckwheat pillow - one many cpap users use.

OK, a big part of the issue is solved.
DH used an old mask, not his new wisp mask, with the dreamstation and got a low AHI. So next step checking why that mask is not working.

Yes, to the extent you can help it, never change more than one thing at a time. Otherwise, if you have an issue, you won't know what caused it.
