And here we go!

Post by jpeters77 » Thu Dec 07, 2017 7:22 pm

I am 49 year old male, 6 feet, 270 lbs.
I have most likely had sleep apnea for many, many years.

Sleep study was done 11/28/2017 and I was diagnosed with apnea. I had 22 events in the first hour and them they added a cpap.

I got my CPAP 12/1/17 and have been using it nightly.

I used the AirFit F20 the first three nights 12/1 -12/3/17.
Then switched to the AirFit P20 and am currently using this.

My pressure is set at 9. I ramp from 4.5 to 9 over 20 min.

I have been using the humidifier at setting 2, not heated hose yet.

I have not had issues with either mask as far as getting used to them. I tried the P20 to see if I could tolerate it and I can, so I choose it for now. It also seems to be getting me better data.

A few questions:

1. With the P20 I think I am ok without a chin strap and am not having signs of mouth breathing. That said I have been talkative with it during the night, maybe I was with the F20, but my wife didn't notice or maybe coincidence.
Do you feel that talking in my sleep would warrant going to a full face mask?
( After Googling my talking and activities during sleep, I am pretty sure I have REM sleep behavior disorder. Wonderful...)

2. This is my biggest concern. I understand that this isn't a magic pill or overnight fix, yet each day after using my cpap I am considerably more tired than I have ever been during the day. I also am having front and back of the head headaches. My days are very difficult to get through. Thoughts?

Thank you and let me know what else I can provide.

Jeff

Excuse me, but what the hell has being white to do with anything?

And if it's important to you, why use the avatar you have up here?

I'm not aware that apnea only affects whites or blacks or greens or whoever.

But then it's also an old myth that only old overweight males get it... many here are small, thin females.

Going by your graphs, your min. pressure setting of 4 is too low... bump it to 6 or 7 and see how you feel after 1-2 nights.

My apologies, just trying to put as much information down as I can. I will remove that, anything else that offends you? Is it ok to state I am Male?
My race is not important and I respect and miss Obama.

The last line of my note was edited just as yours was being posted... so take another look.

And ... so do I, and I'm not in the US (or black, blue or orange if anyone cares ).

I don't miss him and I refuse to look at a post with his picture. What if I changed my avatar to Donald Trump?

I see you've met the welcoming commitee. Only laughing to diffuse my irritation. It was fine that you included white male in your description. I guarantee if you looked at nearly every patient history on every medical report you've ever had, it would include those identifiers. Whether it happens to have anything to do with OSA or not doesn't matter. It's routine to start patient histories like this regardless of the diagnosis or doctor type. Also, plenty of others on here have public figures as their avatar. Your choice of which public figure doesn't have to meet any other member's approval. If someone chooses to not offer you help because of your avatar, there are plenty others who won't even notice (or care). I commend you for trying to be accommodating, but honestly, it wasn't necessary. You can never please everyone.

EDIT: Erroneous advice deleted. My error in not seeing they were using a fixed pressure.

Feel free to come back if you have any other questions or problems. I hope you won't let a couple snarky responses deter you. Sorry that was your first impression of this forum.

You know folks if you would take the time too look at the reports...
He is using an apap machine but in fixed cpap mode...at a pressure of 9.
The 4 you see in the statistics is nothing more than a short period of time using the ramp. Hurts nothing.

In your haste to be ugly and hateful you didn't even bother to look at the reports. I am disappointed in how you treated a newbie.
I am sitting here shaking my head at how ugly things go.
Way to go...set a new record for running off a newbie.

He can say he is white if he wishes...it's part of the medical history and pretty much every report I have ever seen mentions race.
Certainly no reason to attack a newbie.

He can use any avatar he wishes....personal choice and if you don't like it...well, pretty much tough.
You don't like Obama...that's your personal choice but it has no place here in this thread. Start your own OT thread if you want to go down the political road and starts bashing presidents or whatever or whoever. That sort of stuff isn't welcome in a newbie helping thread.

I hope that your unwelcome wagon hasn't run another person off. I am speechless here....I can't believe what I just read.

The above wasn't directed at AMK or kteague.

To the OP here.
Just in case you didn't leave I sent you a private message explaining what I thought about your reports.
Short version...
No need to increase the pressure at this time. Give it more time and see if things settle down and your AHI trends to the lower side that we see here.

You can use a picture of Obama if you wish as your avatar. If someone doesn't like it...that's their problem.

He even states in his post that his pressure is 9. So not only did he get flamed, he got shitty advice.

(That wasn't directed at Pugsy. That was in agreement with Pugsy.)

I know it wasn't directed at me and you know what I said wasn't directed at you or kteague.

I really wish people would actually learn how to interpret these reports before giving shitty advice or just refrain from offering advice if they can't understand the reports. All it does is cause more work for the rest of us cleaning up their messes.

Guess you know that I am mad as hell right now. Attacking a newbie like this is guaranteed to bring out the Mama Bear in me.

There are good reasons doctors need to know if you're black, white, asian, etc... as there are physiologic differences in those groups depending on their diagnosis. But this is NOT a medical office or hospital and being white is not relevant to OSA. I questioned the need for the OP to mention it and the fact you find it 'hateful' and 'ugly' that I did so, rather than join me in the question tells me a lot about you... and how (some of) you've really lost perspective on things... maybe you've been in that frame of mind for so long you don't understand that it's 'hateful and ugly' to see how blind you've become to the whole subject.

Just being a newbie doesn't make people angels, or worthy of help... someone asked how others would react if they put up an avatar of David Duke... and I wonder now if by his being a newbie he's still get the welcome wagon no matter what!

Sigh....

There's a huge difference between a picture of a past president and David Duke or Hitler or current president or whomever.
BUT....people have a right to choose whatever avatar they want to use....not our job to police the avatar choices. If someone doesn't like a person's avatar choice...there's the Foe button that I would encourage that someone to use.
We don't have the avatar police here.

And all newbies most definitely warrant special treatment. Even the annoying ones.
At least until it is determined why they want to be here. Even the alphabet boy got nice polite responses at first until he went whacko on us.

I don't see where the OP violated anything here.
But I do see some stuff that might make it into the hateful category.
