Leaving on trip

Post by AMESS » Sat Nov 04, 2017 6:33 am

Leaving on trip tomorrow and DO NOT want to haul all this stuff along. Getting bags under eyes with FF mask. Do not want to wait 2 hrs till I can come out of my cabin. Thinking I will go back to nasal pillows and pick up a GOOD chin strap from Walmart and give it a try tonight. Advice on a chin strap that works?

WalMart won't have official chin straps but instead some stuff you can probably use as a chin strap.
I had decent luck with a cheap sweat headband turned around to use as a chin strap.

Forum member Jay Aitchsee uses a scunci worn a little differently.

Checked the store web site and found one that looks decent and is in the store. (I hope). Not much else I can do on a Sat. Yikes never though it would be like this.

I just updated an old post from the distant past that had broken photobucket image links ... it may help the mouth leakers wanting to use a nasal pillow mask.

viewtopic.php?p=435648#p435648

Basically, the PapCap is the only chin strap worth buying then just add some stretchy material to cover your mouth/lips ... the PapCap straps keep the stretchy material over your mouth in place.

I travel all the time with my machine. If you need a few tips I suggest:
Have the attitude I will leave everything else at home before I go without my machine.
You HAVE to be organized and give yourself time to tear down and set up.
I allow myself to use whatever water is available, don’t haul around distilled.
Take spare parts and a copy of your prescription in case you need to order a part online. Actually send a copy of your prescriptionn to http://www.cpap.com so they have it on file. They can ship overnight, I believe.

Good luck. It’s not that bad traveling with it. I wish I knew how many “Miles” my machine has traveled with me.

I had good luck using an Ace bandage. I'm not sure of the science behind it but after a few months, I stopped being a mouth breather and no longer need it.

Who the hell is Las? Yes a 2 inch ace bandage, I have used it too, helped me to practice keeping my big yap shut and only breathe through my nose.

Having to use an xPAP machine has altered how I travel and where I stay but that's life as far as I'm concerned.

The soft floppy bag I used for checked luggage is now a hard shell suitcase. I put my humidifier in it and carry my machine in my carry on back pack. I have to use accommodation that has a power supply (and I used to love camping) and this now means booking in advance as opposed to doing it on the fly. If i travel by car it's a lot simpler but I've easily coped this year with a driving trip to and around Tasmania, a visit to the UK and two trips to Perth WA. I'm going to New Zealand in six weeks time for a month so it hasn't slowed me down.

As someone else has mentioned, my machine is foremost in my mind and I've developed routines to cater how this will work. I now have two machines - a Respironics APAP and a Respironics BiPAP. The APAP is my travel machine. Both share the same humidifier. If I am unlucky enough to lose my travel machine I know I have something to come back to.

This weekend, the 'guys' had their annual camp out at a place that can only be accessed by boat. It's a brilliant place! I've been before and had a blast but with no power supply this is no longer viable for me. That's life - you adapt to what it serves you and carry on.

Why do I keep hearing this song in my head, God-Greyhound-Gone-Thanks! I'll swear I've heard that before somewhere. Around here I'm more likely to trip on a leaf, than leave on a trip. Jim
