machines and masks in Toronto

Post by halb » Tue Sep 05, 2006 6:47 am

if you have ohip , they will cover 75% of the machine if you go through adp- There are many companies in the Toronto area. Vitalaire is one. If you call one of the sleep labs in Toronto they should have a list (at least 9 companies). However some companies deal more with one type of cpap than others (resmed, respironics, goodknight)

Hi Ken in Ottawa, I'm France in Ottawa. I've never heard about "About CPAP". I guess they're new? I've been dealing with Access Therapy / Medigas. I've been with them for 3 years and I'm quite happy with them but I'll look into About CPAP. Do you know if they have a website?

brand new CPAP unit for sale - located in Northern Ontario

Post by northerngurrl » Tue Sep 05, 2006 4:14 pm

Hi...I have a Fisher & Paykel HC200 Series Humidified CPAP system for sale along with an unused nasal mask: Respironics Simplicity Nasal Mask and Head Gear Assembly - never worn.
I am located in Northern Ontario. I have never used this system and its been in the original packaging since I purchased the unit from Medigas in Toronto a few years ago.
Due to other complications I decided not to use this system. I opted for the weightloss option.
Not sure if you are looking for a current model or if it matters. All you need is the prescription to have it calibrated. I checked with Medigas and they informed me that as long as it has the original paper work and in good condition (new) then I am okay to sell it privately.

If you are interested in more details - contact me.
cheers, dianna

Since you are not a new user, you don't need any advice on how to use the machine. I would suggest you to go to Buffalo, NY to buy one. I got my PB420E with heated humidifier for US$700, which could cost me over US$1000 if bought it in Toronto.

I think you just have to make sure that you know about ALL THE CHARGES you will be expected to pay, before you buy from outside Canada. otherwise it is not as good a deal as you expect. Depending where you live driving over to pick things up would work as you will have to pay brokerage fees, but I don't know much about that.
the GST code is 57 for importation of medical supplies without GST and PST

sonspot,

One thing to consider is that if you get the Pro 2 or the Remstar Auto (NON-M Series machines), the parts from your present machine will interchange with those models.

My recommendation would be to buy from CPAP.COM.

Best wishes,

Den

According to my doctor most companies in the US are not supposed to ship to Canada. Also, the warrenty on the machine is different. If you purchase your machine in Canada you get a 3 year warrenty. If you buy in the US it is only the manufacturer warrenty which is 90 days to 2 years depending on the piece of equipment. Also, for any warrenty repairs you have to deal with the company that you purchased the machine from. Lastly, if you purchase the unit in the US you are not able to apply for the goverment funding so you are losing $780.00 off the bottom line. So instead of just paying the differance between the cost of your system and what the goverment pays in the US you are paying the entire cost. With everything factured in it is costing you a lot more.

I have been with VitalAire for a few years now and the service/equipment has been excellent.

AMEN TOM! WEll-said. Canadians should buy in CANADA - not from US businesses doing what they're not allowed to do and is illegal.

Hmmmmmm........ Be careful about what you term as "illegal".
What happened to NAFTA? Our two countries have been exchanging goods for......EVER. I have a friend that lives in Calgary.......back in the 1970's she had a Ford Thunderbird that was made in the U.S........I (still) have a 1975 Ford F250 that was made in Canada.

Most of the XPAP manufacturers are now owned by companies that are NOT from the Americas. What difference what country you purchase something from? Some day, soon, the Chinese will be making these things and Wal-Mart will be selling them for about $100 without a prescription and they'll be on on the shelves next to the blood pressure machines and the glucose meters.
