It should.......and usually does once the user takes control of their own therapy.
It's very important to have a good mental attitude.
Please fill out your profile with all of your equipment and settings. If you have a data-capable machine, we strongly recommend using software (like Sleepyhead) to monitor therapy. If you DON'T have a data-capable machine, it would be in your best interests to make them exchange the one you have for one that is.

Hang in there.

Like Wulfman said, just give it a chance to do it's magic. Most people don't have overnight success so usually there's some effort involved. Your sleep doctor just gives you a general template and it's up to you to fill in all the very important details... that's why people come here. If you have questions, and you probably will, put the question briefly in the subject line like: mask leaks (a biggie), adjusting to therapy, noise issues etc. So here's where to start with beginners support:

Here’s some good Sleepyhead software info:

IMPORTANT:
This will take you to your EQUIPMENT PROFILE section, NOTE THE TABS ALONG THE TOP OF THE EDIT BOX:

Do the best you can and come back for help if you need it. Good luck and put on that smiley face, you can be proud you took the first big steps!

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Hi nick,
It absolutely will get better. Keep an open mind. There will be a day, maybe weeks in the near future, when you will look forward to gearing up for a good night's sleep. Folks here will help. Do tell us about your equipment, settings, and issues you are working through..
Jim

Welcome to the group.

Yep, I know the feeling. 3 months and I feel I'm going backward as often as forward. It is getting better but it can take a while for some people, especially if there are co-morbid conditions.
Give it time, it will most definitely be better than not having the machine.

It takes a long time to start feeling better but once you do, even if you dont feel amazing you'll certainly feel better than you did before

Hi Nick,

If you have time and want some reassurance, read the archived threads here. They are a wonderful resource, a virtual history of thousands who have been through what you're experiencing now.

When I started, every morning for a few months I would log onto the forum over my morning coffee and read.

Sometimes I would go back to old threads from maybe 4 or even 5 years ago, and read threads from members who had a very rough start, but in time resolved issues and are now happy with their CPAP. This provided an incentive to continue and I also learned from those who had been through it all before.

The most important thing though, is that "checking in" here daily by reading the latest threads, especially when you begin, helps to reinforce the resolve to continue. It can be so tempting to walk away and give up CPAP because getting used to it at first is hard for some of us. It does get better!

Welcome, and best of luck!

Bottom line - the first night I used my machine I cried. Seriously. I thought, wow using this machine forever - sleeping with a vacuum cleaner on my face - just great! My sex life? Over. Well wrong on all counts.

First, I still would not choose to use the machine. That said - It's wonderful to realize each time I put the mask on that the CPAP has given me my energy back: given me my life back as I once knew it.

Vacuum cleaner on your face? Well it took about six month to get completely used to it. After 3 month it was ok. After a month I no longer felt like an alien was attacking me in my sleep. Seriously, the first month was hard.

Lastly - my girlfriend has no problem with it. My machine makes virtually no noise as well. Oh - just don't use the hose for kinky sex! You'll damage it - but I am just assuming - as I wouldn't know from experience...

It will get easier for you - and it has changed my life. I don't love the machine - but I LOVE WHAT IT DOES FOR ME. With a little time you will too.

It's a life changer in 10% negative ways and 90% positive ways. - What a deal eh?

Just hang in there. Be patient and you will see for yourself.
