Re: Anyone here had a septoplasty? (poll included)

Mine was done in 1990, and it made my condition much worse. Before I could breathe through my nose while sleeping. Afterwards just lying down makes my nasal passages swell so much that I can't breathe through my nose even while awake.

Re: eye problems

Thanks, I just fixed it.

The retina, on the other hand is the interior lining of the back side of the eye. It's where the cells that detect light are located.

Re: Need help for stuffy nose nights

lanndi,

This sort of question keeps coming up in this forum, and the most useful information I've found about it appears in this thread, which is very, very helpful:

Re: newbie: clogged nose ergo apnea?

This thread needs a ping to bring it back to the top because the subject keeps coming up. The most recent new thread to ask the same question is lanndi's:

Re: eye problems

Wrenn, go see an optometrist and/or your family doctor immediately, and see if you have a corneal tear (pronounced "tare", not "tere"). You might have a condition called "dry eye': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_eye I've had it for years, and felt an actual little rip in one eye upon waking up. I ...

Re: septoplasty and turbinate surgery

Rooster, think about my description of the 1994 surgeries which cured my sleep apnea, and then consider this. When the time came for the wires holding my face together to be taken out, Dr. Robert W. Riley novocained me up in his office, put me in a chair remarkably like the one in Marathon Man , too...

Re: opinion wanted-full face: Mirage Quattro or Ultra Mirage?

Wulfman, that was my impression of the Quattro too. Your experience indicates this is inherent in its design, and that I should return the Quattro and try the Ultra. http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic/t43193/posting.php?mode=quote&f=1&p=382392 The Flexifit HC431 does not seal as well as the Mirage Qu...

Re: septoplasty and turbinate surgery

I had the old painful septoplasty about 1990. I had a partially deviated septum which my ENT suspected was causing my OSA. The septoplasty was done on an outpatient basis - I checked into the hospital at 5 am and was released around 11 pm. My nose & much of my sinuses were packed with gauze. There w...

Re: POLL: Apnea & Thyroid Probs

My second sleep apnea specialist (the first moved out of state) suggested a thyroid check at my first examination by him. My family doctor said the result showed that my thyroid had been dead and buried for years. Thyroid medication quickly restored my thyroid level to normal, but that didn't do a t...

Re: Having OSA and not obese

Raj, don't let them con you into moving the base of your tongue forward & screwing it down in a new position. That didn't help me. What did was extending the length of my jaw, which I don't recommend either. See: http://www.cpaptalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43162&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15#p382433 The s...

Re: Having OSA and not obese

The leading risk indicators of OSA, in order are (1) a history of heroic snoring, (2) being male, (3) over 40 years old and (4) being seriously overweight. I had the first three when I developed sleep apnea in 1990. My wife sounds terrible at night, being seriously overweight and now almost 59 years...

Re: wake up at 3AM with dry and crusty mouth

The real question is whether you have the same dry mouth condition without using the CPAP. If so, and I have that condition - it seems to have caused the recurrence of my sleep apnea, you may well have an autoimmune disorder. Salivary deficiency, dry eye and nasal congestion at night, especially any...

Re: Advice Requested on Mirage Quattro Face Mask

Rooster, thanks for the suggestion about discontinuing the Afrin for one nostril at a time. I know about the Afrin rebound congestion. Keep in mind that my county's health insurer waits months to approve anything, and I needed something fast. I am told by a friend that investigation of my autoimmune...

Re: Apnea destroyed my career

Rooster, the scary thing was when my surgeon asked for pictures of my children and diagnosed my sons' sleep disorder based on their jaw shape. So they had their first sleep study with my last sleep study, in August 1994, and were diagnosed with upper airway resistance syndrome. Pluls the sleep speci...
