The noise is keeping me awake
[quote="biggziff"][quote="Severeena"]The Hans Rudolph is a quiet full face mask. This mask has 5 sizes plus different seals to customize the fit to cut down on leaks.
My Leagage on my ResMed AutoSpirit has been 0.00L/S for the last three days.
I am not using a seal of any sort on my mask.

I'm the world's worst at figuring out what statistics mean.
I'm guessing that Severeena was reporting the "Median" leak rate. I had quite a few 0.00 L/sec as the Median leak rate while using the ResMed VPAP III machine. That was with my deconstructed Aura each night. Mouth taped, as usual. The little chimney-like exhaust of the Aura (now known as "Headrest" by Aeiomed) was blowing as usual, every night.
Here are five separate nightly reports of leak rate info from my Autoscan software reports. Leaks are reported in L/sec:
95th percentile --- Median --- Maximum
0.02 -------------- 0.00 -------- 0.12
0.22 -------------- 0.00 -------- 0.24
0.00 -------------- 0.00 -------- 0.08
0.26 -------------- 0.06 -------- 0.34
0.18 -------------- 0.00 -------- 0.22
Since the Aura has a narrow diameter connector hose, as does ResMed's Swift, I chose the "Mirage" setting that's used when wearing a Swift.
I don't know if there was anything about the mask I was using or the setting that might mis-report things. But anyway, these were typical leak numbers on all my VPAP III reports.

I just received my Swift and had my first night on it. Ill write my comments in a new post, but I noticed this when looking for posts about it and saw that you consider the swift relatively quiet. After last nights wind tunnel demonstration of sleep, I am afraid to hear the "loud" masks.mikemoran wrote:The Swift, Breeze, Aura and Comfort Curve are all relatively quiet.
I am concerned that perhaps I have a defective mask as with my pressure at 11, it is quite loud. I don't much care about the actual wind blowing as I can face the other way from my mate in bed, but the I found myself worrying all night I was keeping her up with the sound that I would keep myself from sleeping trying to muffle myself under a pillow. Does anyone think I have a bad mask or does this sound normal.
I have seen some comments on how to possibly muffle it and will try that

A@22,
Who said it was relatively quiet? If I said anything, it was that the noise doesn't bother me at all. I try to think of my inhalations as a wave rolling onto the shore and the exhalation as it rolling back into the ocean. It is a bit noisier, but I don't find it bothersome, at my pressure is 10. If you want noise, or maybe I should say a loud decibel level, you should have been at the concert I was at last night (Aerosmith and Lenny Kravtiz-now THAT'S loud).
It may just take some getting used to on your part. I find it a bit soothing, except when I'm sick and can't stand any and all distractions. Then it makes me downright crotchety!!!
But, on the other hand, curious to know how you liked it. I'll go look and see if you wrote another post separate from this one. I hope you did.

Apnea@22, I tried two Swifts in the past and found them both to be VERY noisy. I'm sure my hearing at age 60 isn't anywhere near as good as yours at age 22. LOL! Even so, I thought the Swift was one of the noisiest masks I've ever worn...second only to the Nasal Aire II when it comes to having a continuous varying loud whooooooooooosh sound all night.Apneaat22 wrote:I just received my Swift and had my first night on it. Add to that the fact that the Swift's exhaust is gonna hit just about EVERYTHING -- bedcover, sheet, mattress, pillow, and your arm if you like to drape arm over an extra pillow while side sleeping -- well, it just wasn't an interface for me even though it does suit many many other people extremely well. I even tried several kinds of netting inserted in the cylinder to make the Swift quieter, as others have reported doing. Couldn't tell a bit of difference. It was still very noisy. The propensity of the Swift's exhaust to hit bedcovers made it even louder at times.
I find the Breeze and the Aura (now known as Aeiomed's "Headrest"...stupid new name, but still a great interface) to have less annoying sounds than the Swift does. Their sound is mostly only when you inhale...an incoming shussssh sound each time you inhale. Some people might find that intermittent inhale sound more annoying. At any rate, the sound from the Breeze and Aura suit me better than hearing the Swift's continuous varying sounds of air rushing every which way.
