I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

I do use it ... just not as much as I should.
As for cheap, I meant relative to a gym membership with a personal trainer etc. etc.
I've had mine for 595 days it said this morning. So broken down on a per day basis the ownership cost is pretty darn low.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
I have the Wii Fit Plus. I don't know how much good it will do after I'm actually in shape, but I like it a lot and it is a really good workout. It has jogging, biking, step aerobics, boxing, skateboarding, slalom skiing, yoga, Pilates-type strength building poses, and a ridiculous number of silly games (that are actually quite a lot of work).
I play other Wii sports too (we have Wii Sports Resort, as well as some other active games) but there's a definite difference between those and Wii Fit Plus. I think that it's like anything else--if you use it, it works, at least for now. And I think that having a couple dozen different ways to work out does mean I'll use it more.
Oh, but don't buy it if you don't want to be told you're fat, because it will.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
We already had a Wii (when they first came out) and received the Wii Fit Plus as a Christmas present. I made my wife a deal that if she would prepare all of my meals (except breakfast, I eat instant oatmeal) ahead of time and pack them up so I could take them with me to the Fire Department and Ambulance jobs, I would only eat it (and not the junky food I was always eating on the go). Between that and doing an average of an hour/500 calories burnt on the Wii Fit Plus a day, I have already lost 21 pounds since Christmas. It is encouraging to step on the balance board and see my BMI just a little lower each day. That is enough to make me "do good" during the evenings when I was the worst to snack, because I want to see my blue line on the graph chart go down each morning when I weigh in.

You've lost 21 pounds since Christmas??? !!! It took me six months to lose 14 pounds. Which all found their way home, thank you very much. I want to eat what you are eating. ( I just came home from Del Taco ) An hour a day on the Wii Fit? I can do that. Be back in sixty minutes.

Well, being a guy (for one) who was originally 325lbs at Christmas is a lot of the reason for that. I went from eating probably 3,000-4,000 calories a day with no exercise - to eating more like 1,500-2,000 calories a day (of healthier foods) and getting about an hour of exercise a day. I know the weight loss will get slower and slower as I go. One thing I noticed about the Wii Fit is that it is way off on my ideal weight. It says my ideal weight would be 171 lbs. I am 6' 2" with a large frame (where your middle finger and thumb don't come close to touching when wrapping your hand around your wrist bones at the largest area) and I weighed 205 lbs. when I got married 21 years ago (and was very slender). I am being more realistic and shooting for at least 225 lbs ... anything under that will be gravy (or lack thereof).

You really want this thing, don't you? Tell you what. It's yours. Just $400 shipping and handling. Shipped in a paper bag, handled by me.GumbyCT wrote:Sell it - it's brokeOCNorsk wrote:You've lost 21 pounds since Christmas??? !!! It took me six months to lose 14 pounds. The six months to lose was before Wii Fit. The gaining it back was... I'm sorry, I know carrots are skinny and orange and so are Cheetos. But the Cheetos are so much better. I got to the point where I was slapping the face on my head of lettuce.
The Wii Fit does have a pretty low "goal weight." I think it's not reasonable to have a weight chart that is the same for people who are 25 and people who are 60+. Not the same thing at all. If I tried to weigh what I weighed in high school, I'd look like a cadaver.
Re: Wii Fit Comments?
Ycartf, Congrats on the wieght loss. I do about an hour a day on the Wii, too. Not so much for the wight loss, but to keep my heart in shape.
I was down your way the week after Christmas. I got a call, Dec. 23, that my mom was in critical condition in the ICU of Enterprise Medical Center. She had had called 911 because she couldn't breathe and when the rescue squad got to her house she was cold and blue. Congestive heart failure. We didn't even know she had a heart problem, she was always so active and strong. I flew in and out of Dothan. I thought about calling you, but hadn't brought your number with me and couldn't remember your real name. Always nice to meet a fellow cpapper.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
I got the Wii Fit Plus and EA Sports Active for Christmas. Since I'm currently unemployed, I figure I can use my time getting fit a loosing weight. I play around on the Fit + to warm up until it tells me that I've burned 80 or so calories. Then I do a medium intensity EA workout for 25-30 minutes. That one gets me SWEATING. Then I have lunch and if it's not too cold, go ride my horse for an hour. Between that and running errends, I'm just too busy for a job.
I've lost 7# since Nov. 30 with the above plan and about 1800 calories. I have about 45# to go.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
Since my diagnosis, I've wondered if my mom has also had sleep apnea all of her life. She snores like a freight train. I watched her sleep in the ICU and it was hard to tell because she was obviously uncomfortable and her sleep was disturbed constantly by all the bells and whistles attached to her and the face mask that was way to big and hit her in the eyes. I asked the Dr.(it was a doctor on call, because of the holidays) specifically if he thought she had sleep anpnea and he said, "we have ruled that out." Of course, this is the same doctor who said "Just let the little old lady die. Intubation will just prolong her suffering" on Christmas Day. I don't know how they could have "ruled it out" when they did not do a sleep study and they obviously saw that her oxygen levels were lower when she slept. THe other doctor was more optimistic. He had her on a Big bipap unit at night to "push oxygen into her".
She has been in atrial fibrillation for over three weeks now, maybe longer. I don't know if any of this is connected to sleep apnea, Im just thinking out loud.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
I have Wii Sports Resort, Dance Dance Revolution: Party 2, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, EA Sports Active, and Gold's Gym Cardio: Mainly boxing and you can use 2 Wii Remotes instead of just the Nunchuck and Wii-mote setup which blocks your form due to the wire. A note for those having trouble with 3-point shoot-out on basketball in Wii Sports Resort: it is just a flick of your wrist not a full shooting motion as you would do in real life. I also just got the Turbo Jam videos and I do shadow boxing with 1pound hand-gloves. I have lost 10pounds since starting in August with CPAP.

Re: Wii Fit Comments?
We received the Wii Fit Christmas (2008) for a gift I love it, I do some of the yoga, strength, aerobics, and the balance exercises. We live in cold CT also, and aren't able to walk outdoors as much in the winter because of snow and ice, so this provides some physical activity, we do walk outdoors whenever we can. The games are ok (golf, bowling, etc) but I enjoy the exercises more. My husband and I are in our 70's...I use it a lot more than he does. He loves golf, and calls this "fake golf"... I think it would be a good way to keep the muscles you use during golfing season limber.
