It's me again. I just had my 1st big rainout, and barely even know what that is. I guess I really don't even know that much...I've seen the term, but I don't know what to do about it. Can you tell me what's up? I know from my 1st really bad night (Friday night) that this is where I can find the answers, so I'm counting on someone here telling me how to get some sleep tonight.
Thank you
Rosie

I'll give you my input if it helps any. What helped me was making sure the hose went up as high as possible from the machine and then came back down to my mask. This lets any condensation that does start to form run back to the machine instead of to the mask. Helped in my case anyway. Just give yourself enough freedom of movement to be able to move at night without putting pressure against the hose. Also helps to have the room temperature a little higher if you can stand it. If it is too cold in the room, the heated and moist air will condense a lot quicker and cause rain-out. I like the room cool myself, so I have to keep the hose covered to keep it warmer. That really helps too. I also have to keep the humidifier set at the lowest setting it goes too to prevent rain-out. These have helped me.

Thank you, Tracy. It might be the room/bed temp, as I went to sleep with my matress pad on. All I know is after an hour, I could tell there was some condensation, and when I turned on my side, it "dumped" on my hand! Well, I'm going to try to sleep again now. I haven't had enough good nights since starting on my cpap to feel rested yet...can't WAIT for that to happen. Again, I thank you for your input.

I know what you mean. I started to notice a huge difference with-in a few weeks of starting CPAP. I had some trouble adjusting to the machine and the rain-out issues and still do, but I've never been one to give up easy. This is for MY health and I had to figure out a way to make it work. This forum is a GREAT resource and has helped me tremendously in my quest to educate myself. Learn as much as you can on here. It will help you with any problems you do encounter and don't be afraid to ask ANY questions. A wise teacher I had in college told us that the only dumb question was the one you DIDN'T ask. I've found that to be very true in life. Just stick with it and you'll do fine
