Waking up in a lake

Post by nobody » Fri Feb 06, 2009 6:35 am

I sewed together a piece of fleece and put it on my hose. It worked great on the hose, no rain out. But I still wake up in a mini-lake inside the mask. It also starts whistling like a teapot because there is so much water condensed on the sides.

Hmmm... I received a Snuggle Hose yesterday and I've just put it on my hose. I'm about 2 on my humidifier and only had a probelm when I discovered the control [it's in the back and I never looked] and cranked it up all the way. The result was more of like ocean than a lake . I'm going to try the half-way mark and see what happens. Hopefully the lake will be dry.

Are you sure that's not still rainout? My Quattro did similar things when I was using a hose cover but they disappeared when I went to the heated hose. I had mine cranked up a couple of times without problems.

Yeah it's rain out in the mask itself. The hose is completely dry. I only had my humidifier set on 2.

I use a heated hose + hose cover (fleece) + fleece cover for the tube that connect hose to mask.

What are your leak rates and AHI?

9 - 17 is a wide range of pressure. What does your pressure curve look like?

What is your bedroom temperature?

It's about 60F in here at night , so not surprising it condenses a lot. I do not like the heat at all. I don't like breathing it either TBH, but I need some humidity. Not sure why the other stuff matters? I should change that in my sig I guess. I have my pressure on 8.5 - 11. My AHI has been around 1.5 or 2 and that crappy mask leaks a lot. I'm getting another mask, just waiting for it to get here.

I found a leaking mask contributed to condensation in the mask. Hopefully a new mask will help you.

I am with you on keeping the bedroom cool so I will not suggest turning the heat up.

Hmm - I keep my bedroom between 57 and 59 at night and humidifier on 4 for Sandman (2 for M-Series APAP), with heated hose, and no condensation with Quattro....

We can be thankful the lake was just inside your mask

Even with no water apparent in the hose, it might be that the heated humidified air is able to hold onto its moisture through the 6 feet of hose, but just can't hold it (has cooled off too much) for that last hop to the mask. A heated hose would probably keep the humidification in the air all the way to the mask instead of ...ummm.. shall we say, petering out near the end of the trip.

You may want to try double insulating the hose at your room temperature, if you don't want to go with a heated hose. I had the same problem until I double insulated, and have not had any rainout in over a month now...even when our bedroom went down to 55.

I'm not sure what's changed, but I haven't been having as much problem with it lately. The outside temp has been warmer and the snow has been melting. I wonder if it's just more humid in the regular air that makes a difference? *shrug* I'll try double insulating it, I certainly have plenty of the fleece material lying around and they are a breeze to sew together (well now they are, I'm not exactly known for my sewing skills )
