F&P HC220LE Programming
F&P HC220LE Programming
Hello to all -
I will pose my question first, which is how can I increase the pressure on my Fisher & Paykel HC220LE?
Now for the reason I ask ...... I had suspected for some time that I could benefit from a slight increase, but since I live alone excepting one cat (and he's no good for feedback!), I couldn't determine for sure.
That said, we had a trip this weekend to my boss' lake home, and he put people up in hotel rooms. I was rooming w/ another co-worker, and he mentioned to me the next morning, unsolicited, that he was surprised that I still occasionally snored! So, that was 'proof' enough for me.
I thank you in advance for any assistance you can lend me ...
however, at the risk of seeming rude, I will say that I don't want/need this thread to turn into a discussion about "going to the doctor" (I'm too poor) or it being an "insurance risk" (I work in the industry). That's not to say that those points do not have some degree of merit - it's just to say that I'm not posting to hear that ... we all know it, it's not new, nobody's arguing to the contrary ... so posting about it isn't helping anyone.
Again, thanks very much in advance to the kind soul(s) that can help out!

Hi Adam!
On the side of the machine where the power switch is, left side if your looking from the front of the cpap. You should be able to see a litt small cut-out shape like a square, or hidden door. Simply push and pull down and it should slide off, under that there is a black dial that you turn up or down to change the pressure.
Good Luck!

Hey - thanks very much ... can't wait to get home to check it out.
One quick question, and I apologize if my memory isn't working ...
I think I can "see", in my mind, the thing you're talking about. However, I really am 99.999% certain that the power-switch is on the right-hand side (if looking @ the front of it, with the humidifier section clearly in the 'front' facing the viewer) ... I just want to make sure that you meant right-hand side, or perhaps it's a different machine than mine ...
Again, thanks much ... hopefully someone can clarify this for me!

I believe he does mean the right hand side. That is where mine is. I bumped mine up 1 # a week until my wife said that I was breathing even. I still snore lightly, but as long as I am don't stop breathing, that is what I am after. I know you said you are alone, maybe you can use a camcorder to monitor your sleeping.

As I suspected, everything was pretty much as advertised (and it was on the RH side).
One thing ... to the best of my knowledge (albeit that's nothing to write home about), I was unable to determine how much I increased the pressure.
That is to say, I found the dial, popped it out***, turned it roughly 1/4 or 1/3 turn clockwise, and it seemed to increase the pressure. My problem is that it's kind of like a blank tape-measure ... I couldn't determine if I increased the pressure (for example) 1 unit, 2 units, 0.735 units, etc. Theres no printed "scale" that I could decipher. Any comments?
Also, there was a "knob" next to it on the right (which I had been advised was the WRONG one to turn, and I did not mess with it) ... anyone know what that might be for? Does it make gold? Does it set a timed bomb? Can I call long distance with it?

*** - this is a "PS" for anyone that searches for this machine down the road ... the knob/dial in question must be pushed-in first so that it "pops out", and then you can adjust it. One similar thing that comes to mind is some car radios utilize similar knobs for balance, fade, bass, treble, etc.

Gosh, I don't know why you don't just take out the manual you got with your machine and read the instructions there.....
Oh, that's right, golly gee how could I forget! Your DME didn't give it to you. He kept the manual and sold it on Ebay. But I'm sure he's going to be sending you a check any day now for the money he made from the sale.....

Sparing the details, perhaps it will make you feel better that my DME didn't make penny-one off of me ... ha ha!!!
Anyway, I think it imperative that I report that I've been way off in some of my posts ... things I discovered on closer inspection:
- That clear window is in fact an LCD display that shows many things, including (eventually) pressure. Being on the far-side from me when I sleep, obviously I never noticed it before.
- That button that I referred to as that which 'pops out' either has no function or one I cannot determine ... in fact, it is the knob to the right of it, which I was previously advised to not fiddle with, that changes the pressure. I then put it up one whole setting (to 11.5) and, this morning at least, I feel no ill effects (e.g., headaches, lung pain, etc.).

Re: F&P HC220LE Programming
Thank you for your posts! This information really helped me. I have had this machine for 5 years and it has been a wrestling match every night. Finally, I quit using it because I would wake up with a brain ache, not a headache, but my brain ache. I am going to try to up the pressure on this thing and see if it helps.
It's ridiculous that it's suppose to be some big secret.
Oh by the way, my machine costs $1200 American dollars (5 years ago) to my insurance company and I found a link to buy one for $394 American dollars.
Can we say, rip off?

I found this. See if this gets you there.will8243 wrote:Can anyone tell me how to unlock a the fisher hc 221 cpap. So i can adjust the pressure.
Fisher & Paykel HC 220 & 220LE: On the side of the machine where the power switch is, you should be able to see a litt small cut-out shape like a square, or hidden door. Simply push and pull down and it should slide off, under that there is a black dial that you turn up or down to change the pressure. (note: the right dial, not the left). Right in front of the adjuster knob is an LCD window that will give you the current pressure setting.

Re: F&P HC220LE Programming
To unlock the HC220 series:
1) Turn the machine off
2) Lower the humidity dial to zero (If the dial isn't all the way down the machine will not go into the programming mode)
3) Hold down the ramp button on the front and turn on the machine at the same time. When the machine restarts you will be in the programming mode.
4) At this point if you turn the humidity dial and look at the LED window you can select from #0 to #5 by turning the humidity dial. Turn the dial and select #4.
5) Press the ramp button. The machine will re-boot in the unlocked mode and you will be able to adjust the pressure by turning the little black screw on the side
Enjoy your new found freedom to adjust the pressure yourself

Hey thank you for the info.
My wife's (backup, spare) machine was locked and this worked perfect.
When she 1st got it, she was at 7.0 cm/H2o I was able to change it to her current setting after her sleep study today.
It feels good to have a spare machine for "just in case" or traveling.
Thanx for the very accurate info.
