Rooster, if you don't mind me asking, what is the source of the 13% compliance statistic you cite?

Regards,
Bill
From the two studies I've seen, compliance rates are surprisingly low. As many as half of patients discontinue CPAP use within the first week and up to 25% of the remaining patients may be expected to have discontinued therapy within three years. Engleman, H.M., Wild, M.R. (2003); Improving CPAP Use by Patients with Sleep Apnoea/Hypopnea Syndrome; Sleep Medicine Reviews, 7, 81-99.

In another study, only 46% of patients used their CPAP for at least four hours a night for five nights a week. Kribbs, NB, Pack, AI, Kline, LR, et al. (1993); Objective Measurement of Patterns of Nasal CPAP Use by Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea; Am. Rev. Respir. Dis. 1993; 147, 887-895.

Defining compliance as only 4 hours a night, 5 days a week seems rather misleading to me.

Perhaps if compliance were defined as 6 hours a night seven days a week the percentage would be as low as 13%--but the study didn't reach that point.

SleepGuy,

I'm curious why clary sage is in all your formulas.

It's perhaps something of a trade secret.....my wife wondered the same thing.

There's only a very small amount--not enough to smell (which is a good thing because clary sage is not a very pleasant smell). It's one of the safe oils according to the FDA and seems to have some therapeutic value for sleep.

Just adding my input too.....Got the delux kit on Wed and used now for 3 nights (getting ready for my 4th) and love it. Very relaxing, using 2-3 drops and not too strong for me. Having lots of dreams and seem to be getting deep sleep, feeling very rested. Last night got 9hrs uninterupted. A first for many years and boy did it feel great! Thanks sleepguy for your product.

I ordered my deluxe kit on Wed. got it on Sat. Tried one drop of the clear(mint) last night;
WOW ! ! !

Slept even better than normal, and it's the first morning, since starting treatment in July, that I'm not stiff and sore (husband reports no more movement than normal). Usually one sinus will clog up before I awake. Not today! I think I'm in love with this stuff already!

One question; Can I mix the oils on the pad? Say one drop of clear and one of peace? I do want to try them all but don't want to lose the great way I feel this morning.

Brenda,

I have been told that some oils do not work well with each other. You need to get a handbook of essential oils (usually found in herbal stores) that list what oils can be used with other oils. You sure don't want to mix a couple of oils that 'fight' with each other...I can't imagine a night with 'fighting oils"!

Hi there, I've written the site with my question but they haven't gotten back to me yet which is a bit of a concern. Meantime, I wonder what your thoughts are.

I use a micro filter with my cpap, would I put your diffuser on top of it (and in between the hose?) Would having 2 devices like this effect the air pressure settings at all?

Thanks!

Sorry about that! I'll answer here: The in-line HEPA filter does affect pressure somewhat. The pur-sleep diffuser is an open design that does not affect pressure. You could place the diffuser in whatever location works best. I'd say put it on top of the in-line filter and before your air hose. But it would work before the filter.

Hope that answers your questions.

Bret

Brenda, this is great news! Glad to hear it.

As for your question I think you should feel free to mix whatever oils you want. When I finally get that vanilla done it blends VERY well with the Spice (it's like Orange Cream) and with Clear (it's like Mint Cream).

question for sleep guy

Post by awaken » Sun Mar 04, 2007 1:36 pm

Thanks for your reply to my question. Out of curiosity, do you know how much the hepa filter affects pressure? I still wake up alot, but part of that I think is due to insomnia which I also have..

Also,I've heard that the aroma fennel is good for apetite control. Was thinking about adding a drop of that to your blends. What do you think?!!! If that worked, you really would be a gazillionaire.

There is also a thread about your product on the talk about sleep site, you might want to consider reading it and responding to some of the comments if you aren't too burnt out getting back to people here (and I have trouble makiing this site work for me sometimes, so often use that site which is very user friendly).

I think you have a great idea here, and wish you alot of success with it. Looking forward to ordering.

Hi Bret,

I just read the "talk about sleep" thread mentioned above and wondered about the following comment.
Try some tea tree oil or eucalyptus and you will be dead.
http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-b ... c606170158

I was going to ask about Eucalyptus.

Haven't seen the latest posting on that forum but I can say that eucalyptus and tea tree are NOT on the FDA list of oils generally recognized as safe for human consumption and I do NOT use them and would NOT recommend that anyone use them.

I have not tried either tea tree or eucalyptus. I did try one drop of camphor oil one night when I had a cold (it's in Vics) and found it to be extremely harsh and unpleasant. Camphor likewise is not on the FDA list and I would not use it.

From cpap.com "in-house" comments on the in-line hepa filters:

"If the filter becomes very dirty it can affect machine performance. It is easy to see the condition of the filter. Replace when it become discolored. Also, This filter may have an impact on the ability of any Auto Adjusting CPAP to accurately respond to airflow restrictions during use. Do not use if the average treatment pressure is below a pressure of 7cm h2o."
