Johnny,

Great idea. I wouldn't know, but I guess with exercise, it's best to do something you can love, not something you force yourself to do simply because you think you have to. I'm trying to get up the nerve to find a nearby swimming pool. I just wish there were a private one nearby. Years ago, I visited my folks in Texas, and they had a community center with a heated indoor pool. I would go there every evening and had the place to myself, no self-conscious angst. I don't swim all that well, but just the movement, even just leisurely stuff made all the difference in the world. With only a few days of it while visiting, I felt better than I had in years. I would love to get that feeling back. If I won the big lottory, I'd buy my own indoor heated pool...!!

In my case, I found a small, local gym that was not full of the "beautiful people" but had a real mix of ages, shapes and genders. I try to plan my visits to coincide with something I want to watch on TV so that I'm exercising whilst watching, even if it's only a gentle walk on the treadmill, rather than sitting on my butt and snacking at the same time.

About 2 years ago I got into the discipline of doing that regularly, and combined with more sensible eating, managed to shed 50 odd pounds over 6 months. Sadly, the discipline slipped, and about 30 pounds have crept back on.

I'm looking for the motivation to get into that routine again, so any encouragement would be welcome and I'm happy to share progress with others if it would help.

Losing weight and keeping it off seems to be difficult for so many.

My brother, his wife and one daughter all joined WW at one time, and they also agreed to be interviewed by a local journalist. Their story was a big story, complete with photos, in the famous Washington Post. They had agreed to have them and the Duyer name plastered for the world to see, hoping it would be encouragement to stick to what they were doing. Even THAT kind of pressure didn't work, entirely. There was progress, but they still struggle and have setbacks. All this I relate to note what lengths we try and go to in order to make us stick to it. The good news is that they have done better. I thought it gutsy to have submitted to public scrutiny like that. I hope us all success, however we get it.

Johnny,

From what I gather from my brothers-in-law - Cheese is good for you!! That's one milk product you can eat lots of.

It's great that you lost that much weight w/o having to really diet. I wish we can all do that. Unfortunately, not all our bodies are the same. Hey... I even tried the Subway Diet..... that's not working either!

As mentioned before, I am going to try the Atkins and see what happens with that.... but I really love carbs (pasta, breads....What kind of an Italian would I be without those carbs? )

I was really hoping to have a better response to this post, but I guess there are not too many people who have weight to lose on this forum.

Well, I'm just going to do my own thing since the response wasn't positive enough to warrant me spending anymore time trying to motivate people.

Good luck.

Thanks,

Heidi

I'd say you have a wonderful response. What were you looking for?

Many offered very usefull suggestions, simple things that work, and words of support. Some wrote of their past difficulties with weight loss.

Did you have something else in mind ?

I'm all ears. Try not to be so narrow in your path to weight loss. This is a BIG group.

Here is my method. It works well for me. http://atkins.com/why/index.html

A few hours a day at the gym doesn't hurt either. If anything it keeps me from eating.

Cheers,

Chris

I guess when I see that more people view the "Sex" topic then weight loss, I get a little discouraged.

I wanted more people to help figure out some kind of a way to be able to encourage/track weight loss.

I joined WW yesterday. I'm just going to concentrate on myself.

Hey there SWTE... If your only concern is that more people looked at the SEX post than your post, I say try posting with SEX in the topic....

For example: Weight Loss Increases SEX Appeal

I bet you will get what you are look for then. Quite honestly, as Crisp mentioned.... Alot of people did look at this site and you have 3 pages of people that gave their history of past problems of weight loss and ideas of how to post, etc.... Obviously, we DO all have a WEIGHT Problem... some of us don't want to admit it directly in public... and some of us do..... I believe those who haven't really come to terms with the need to loose weight are the ones that look to this post to see if anything is in action for us to continue working and supporting one another.

Please do not disappoint those who were looking to you for the WEIGHT LOSS SUPPORT and not just for the OSA Support. If you need help, let me know... I can try to help out the best I can.

Please don't get discouraged. Yoo have certainly motivated me into action and I'm 48 hours into a renewed effort.

I've set myself a long term goal and will set and reset short term goals along the way.

My short term goal is to lose 10lbs in March.

Anyone want to join me? I'm happy to share progress and provide encouragement along the way.

Today I started my new healthy lifestyle.

I actually limited my quanity of cereal I pour in my bowl and didn't have that second bowl, like I usually do.

I also made the switch to skim milk. I'm going to only drink two 8oz glasses a day. That is really a change for me as I'm a HUGE milk drinker. My family can go through a gallon at a meal. (husband and boys 9, 5, 3)! We considered buying a milk cow, seriously because my husband is a farmer anyway.

I don't know about you guys but as far as drinking water--I'm not big on it. I decided that I would drink at least three glasses of water a day, minimum. Our bodies need this to flush. Diet pop and sugar free kool-aid. Absolutely no regular pop or juice.

My biggest problem is portions. I eat, not until I feel satisfied and the hunger pain is gone but until I'm completely full--I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE. I know it will take some time to get use to it, but I am only going to eat enough food so that I am comfortable. Like I said I need to retrain my body because I have been over doing it for so long that it is a bad habit and made me 75 pounds overweight.

I'm hoping the big changes of drinking more weight loss friendly beverages and watching my portions, I'll be shedding like a snake!
