Ive been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea – Now I’m getting very worried
Ive recently became a widower and moved from England to be with my daughter in America . Before I left England I was diagnosed as having sleep apnea. So following the doctors advice I purchased a Resmed AirSense 10 auto set machine , which I have brought with me .
Due to my recent personal bereavement I have not been using my Resmed machine until a few days ago, so I’m now starting to try and understand and hopefully comes to terms with sleep apnea and gain more insight as to whats involved and what may be the best course of action to move forward.
I have done some internet research on the subject of sleep apnea, but I’m hoping that other members here can offer me help , advice and guidance. I have recently installed the application Oscar on my computer and installed a SD memory card in my Resmed machine.
One area that has alarmed me was a comment I was told by my daughters next door neighbour. After talking with that neighbour and mentioning that I had been diagnosed with sleep apnea , the lady neighbour told me that her elderly mother had passed away due to her having sleep apnea.
So being 74 years old and after hearing the neighbours comment about her elderly mother , I’m now trying to stay positive and moved forward and get my sleep apnea under control in the hope that my sleep apnea symptoms don’t some how progress to a point where I start to get really concerned about my possible uncertain future.
I'm getting worried .

Untreated sleep apnea is dangerous.
Treated sleep apnea (with CPAP), less so.
Strap it on, post some charts, start healing. You're going to be just fine.

My mom passed away at ripe old age of 92 and may well have had undiagnosed apnea. Worrying will get you nowhere. Start using the machine, get it dialed in and see how you feel - probably better.Cocka2 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 1:52 am...

I would have thought as transplanted UK you would have spelled it "apnoea" - are you Americanizing?

Don't panic at what your neighbour said... you (and quite possibly she) know nothing about her mother's experience and it's not common to just die from apnea alone unless it's very severe, likely with other (prob. cardiac) conditions and no attempt at Cpap being made. Get your test results - they're legally yours in the U.S. but only member rickblaine (put that in the search bar above and send him a PM) could tell you about the NHS, diff. apnea/Cpap stuff in the UK - he's really helped many of you here. In any case, post the results, or just let us know the #'s, etc. and tell us how you're feeling, what problems you might have (small details can make a big difference until adjusted) and experts here will advise. Of course cover your personal info on the postings.

Use your CPAP and analyze the results with OSCAR and help from forum members. Do this, and you won't die from sleep apnea.

I’m learning that untreated sleep apnea is dangerous and has to be taken seriously , I've never been one to give up or give in , so it looks like its time to start fighting back .

Thank you ,
Ive got my fingers firmly crossed that I will be lucky enough to reach the same age as your mother
.
sorry about the spelling , since arriving here there are many things I’m trying to get use to and adapt to, us Brits are slow learners

Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

Re: Ive been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea – Now I’m getting very worried
This is my first Oscar report , I hope I've posted it correctly . I’m having trouble getting use to wearing the mask and find it annoying and have to remove it at some time during the night
So my information from the original medical sleep apnea report is shown below along with my Oscar report .
I've included the setting on my Resmed machine, those settings are the original doctors recommended settings and I have not altered them in any way
Some other information ( no specific order )
I am male and 74 years old
I sleep alone
I sleep on my side .
I don’t drink alcohol .
I am only currently taking one drug for high cholesterol .
I always wake up with a feeling of stomach nausea.
Other thoughts
After waking up and through out the rest of the day time, I’m feeling constantly tired out and fatigued.
I’m wondering if taking a mid day / afternoon nap may improve things in any way.
Would altering the original doctors Resmed machine settings in any way help .
Any advice , suggestions or comments would be most welcome.

Freeze this moment a little bit longer.
Make each sensation a little bit stronger.
Experience slips away.

No one can know until seeing your OSCAR chart.
Get a free account at imgur.com; upload your chart to imgur; and post the link in this thread.
Why not?
