Help on installing encore pro
Help on installing encore pro
I know there have been a thousand questions on the installation of encore pro...I know because I have read through a bunch of them. ..make it 1001 questions.
I have XP 2002 home edition. Inserted the 1.8.49 Encore CD. On the screen the encore window appears...1.install 2 tutorials and 3 PDF files. I clicked the install file. Encore pro installed. Plugged in the card reader to a main USB port on the back of the computer. Rebooted. On the reboot the smart card reader was installed. Here is the rub. Normally when I install with a CD an icon shows up on the start window or the program list and on the desktop. No sign of encore pro anywhere...so I stuck the CD back in the computer...but it's back to square one with the encore pro window appearing again with the 3 options listed above. How do you get the program up and running? Does the CD have to be in to run...if so what do you click to get up and running. Thanks.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
Is this a fresh install or a "re" install on the machine/OS in question?
If it is a reinstall ... you may need to change the name of (or delete) the folder with the SQL database files in it.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
When I installed it nothing showed up in my start menu either. I added a shortcut to my desktop.
One way to do that is: Right click on the desktop then click on New then shortcut. Browse to the Encore directory and click on it then OK.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
track, Do you have XP or Win2000? I think there are specific idiosyncracies for installing under each and you have to follow the exact instruction for your os from a thread here where somebody said that particular procedure worked for him/her. The installation process is buggy, the ones who had smooth installations the first time are the ones who just lucked out Don't worry, we will get you going soon.track wrote:I have XP 2000.
You may be able to locate the encore program by start->programs->respironics->encore pro->encore pro.when I install with a CD an icon shows up on the start window or the program list and on the desktop. No, the DC does not have to be in to run, if the program was properly installed

Re: Help on installing encore pro
Thanks for the help so far. I have found the file "respironics" and moved it to a folder on the desktop. When I open it I get a window with encore pro. When I try to open that I get a new window with six icons.....encore backup, etc.None of the windows can be opened..they just lead to more dead ends. It shows the file 'encore pro' contains 21.12 MB. This is certainly so far nothing like any program I have installed before...hopefully with your help I can get this figured out. Much thanks in advance.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
track, Very sorry you are having difficulty in following advice from multiple people here. I do not remember asking you to move any folder. In windows (any flavor), after installing a program, if you move the folder, almost any program will stop working. If you are confident you can move the one back to where it was originallty, then you can try the following... If you are not confident about that then I do not know where to starttrack wrote:Thanks for the help so far. I have found the file "respironics" and moved it to a folder on the desktop. AFTER MOVNG BACK TO ORIGINAL:
Carefully look at the path I specified, it may not be exactly that depending upon where you chose to install your priogram starting short cuts at the time of installation (this is usually an installation choice).
If you start by click-holding down the mouse button on the 'start' on left bottom, then the path
start->programs->respironics->encore pro->
will be a directory, and inside that will be a short cut encore pro. If the program was installed correctly (and all the various experiments you have done have not disturbed this), by clicking on the short cut will start the program.
But this is just the first step, as I am patiently trying to walk you thru one step at a time. If you are already an expert all bets are off. Almost everybody here in this forum who asked questions about this program was able to get to this stage before they started asking questions I expect once you succeed in getting the program started, you may run into other problems --- so this time around do not expect you are out of the woods. If you paid for the program you can call up the company and see if they might help you; otherwise I have not given up hope yet

Re: Help on installing encore pro
I am not an expert.. Maybe I am the biggest idiot on this forum who has attempted to installed encore pro...I wouldn't have anyway of knowing that. I am just doing the best I can. I spent 400 dollars on a cpap machine and it included software. I love the machine but without the software it is worthless. I know of no where else to go but here...unless I pay someone from the geek squad to come out...and no guarantee they would know how to install it. I hate XP because I am having so much trouble on this software. I have used windows 95 and 98 for years. I can usually wonder around enough to deal with the basics but I have never been an expert. I use my quickbooks pro, type some letters and get on the internet..that's about it.If you are already an expert all bets are off. Almost everybody here in this forum who asked questions about this program was able to get to this stage before they started asking questions
I deleted everything previously installed and started over with an installation this morning. Checking in windows explorer....It's in my hidden program files under respironics...properties shows 7 MB. I clicked shortcut and now the short cut( titled encore pro) is on the desktop. I have typed ...start->programs->respironics->encore pro->encore pro. in the search window and the run window...but come up with nothing. Am I supposed to be typing it some place else?
I am sure this is very frustrating for you...and I am very appreciative of any help as I have stated in each post I have made....but I can assure you it is far more frustrating for me as I have numerous hours invested so far.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
Track, For the time being, forget about the short cut you installed. Also note that nowhere in my suggestion below I am opening or using the WindowsExplorer -- it is not that I do not know know or use winExplorer (I am Systems Programer ) but I am trying to give you the least error prone and once learnt, the standard program starting method.track wrote:I deleted everything previously installed and started over with an installation this morning. Do you see the Start icon at the left bottom corner of the screen?
When you click on it you would see either a popup menu or a window, with Programs in it. If it is a menu you have to follow that path by keep holding your mouse button down. Eventually, you follow to a path like this:
start->programs->respironics->encore pro->encore pro.
It is possible your exact path may be slightly different. The last item above is the installed program's starting shortcut, already there. So selecting it if it is a menu (cascading type popup menu, you release your mouse button when you reach that last item, when that item is high lighed.) should start the program. Either you should see the program starting window, or some error mesg. If you do not see any of those, but you actually see the above path starting from the Start icon, try it a few more times, just in case there was a piloting error.
If you do not see the above path from Start, then tell me exactly what things are available. I would be more interested in hanging in there with you, if you would kindly refrain from doing additional experiments for a little while more and trust me that I might know something about what I am talking about I do appreciate mine is a tall order, after all it is your computer and I am not paid for this

Re: Help on installing encore pro
When I push mouse button on the start I get a window that has an assortment of programs itemized on the left and right...example Mozilla, internet, avg virus, spyware on the left and programs, my computer, control panel, search, run.etc on the right. There is also an arrow with "all programs" that when touched opens another window that has a list of all my programs installed....respironics/ encore pro is not present in that list. I know you are not doing this for fun but I would gladly pay you for your help if I could afford you. Thank you for being so helpful.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
If all you are lacking is a shortcut icon, you can find the program by using Windows Explorer (Start/programs/accessories. The program resides at My Computer\C:\Program Files\Respironics\Encore Pro\EncorePro.exe
You can right click on that executable file and click "send to" then select "desktop Create shortcut".
That should get you a launch button that is convenient.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
track, That is big progress! I feel like we are getting somewhere jnow, good!! Now I also know how your winxp user interface start menu setting is configured. That also explains why you could not follow me closely before -- sorry for over reacting.track wrote:When I push mouse button on the start I get a window that has an assortment of programs itemized on the left and right...example Mozilla, internet, avg virus, spyware on the left and programs, my computer, control panel, search, run.etc on the right. In my install here, I see encorepro at two places after that start window opens. Right above the all programs menu, there are icons for all the 'major' software that I had personally installed. Then when I follow the all programs, there is another folder Respironics. The reason you do not see either one perhaps is because you and I might have chosen different options during the install process, or your install did not succeed at all.
Another possibility. I cannot remember this now, this program may need to be installed by a user account which has admin privileges. Perhaps your account does not? DreamStalker, Wulfmanm, if you know the answer to this, please jump in. I routinely run with admin privileges, so I would have missed this even if the program required it.
OK, 1. Double check if any of those respironics or encorpore you missed...
2. Assuming it still not there: Let us make good use of your Win Explorer experience!
Locate this: Something like C:\program files\Respironics\Encore Pro\EncorePro.exe
You can simply double click on this to get it started. If there is no .exe there, then the install did not complete. With your knowledge of shortcuts, of course you can make a shortcut to that EncorePro.exe on the desktop or where ever else you choose to.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
Here's an old thread for installing Encore Pro 1.6.
Forget the MyEncore installation directions and the part about setting the program to erase or not erase the smart card.......that's now done from menu options in 1.8. Other than that, everything else should be pretty much the same. Everything should install from the CD. There is also a directory on the CD for "Smart card readers" which contains the setup.exe program to install the smart card drivers. You need Administrative rights to install all the programs on the computer (if you're not already an Administrator). You do NOT plug in the smart card reader until you've completely installed the Encore Pro and smart card drivers......and rebooted the computer.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
I am beginning to believe I didn't get a complete install. A couple of weeks ago I tried installing encore pro 1.7...which I later found out doesn't work with this card reader. I have installed and uninstalled1.7 and 1.8 numerous times and each time it says there is already a setup running and please wait until that setup is installed. After a brief delay it continues to install but I have yet to see anything in the encore pro files that looks like an exe. file.
I have made myself the administrator on this computer but that doesn't seem to have changed anything. I will try it on the other computer with xp tonight but I doubt it will change anything as it is also a dell with the same setup.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
track, Just a heads up. As much as possible avoid reinstalling that sw; since there is a db component it seems to get into a knot on reinstall. So do it carefully right the first time on your new machine. In general, most people have good results on xp install. Install on Vista or othe os appears to have more problem. Good luck.

Re: Help on installing encore pro
Our main computer had gotten slow so I had a tech come out and reformat it and clean up any corruption. While it was reformatting, he installed the encore pro on my other computer...now it works like a charm.
I have a couple of questions for those that use encore pro. I notice on the reports that there maybe only 2 OA flags shown on a daily report but the AI says 1.4. That doesn't seem right...seems like there would be 1.4 flags per the number of hours slept....so if that was 5 hours there would be 7 flags. I also notice for a machine set on apap at 10-20 pressure that the number of OA are much higher at 13 than they are at 10. Does that mean the pressure caused the apnea or the apnea event sent the pressure up and registered it at the higher pressure.
On leaks at a pressure of 11....my UMFF leak rate on my resmed was always way below the red line of 40 on the software ... meaning minimum leaks. On this machine( M series with A flex) my UMFF leak rate is around 70 L/m.....indicating high leaks. Nothing has changed except the machines and I am feeling no leaks at all.
On the resmed machine my HI averaged around 4-4.5/ On the M series my HI is averaging less than .6. MY AHI on the M series is averaging 2...on the resmed it averaged 5.5. If one uses the guideline of 5 or below as the benchmark for getting good treatment...the resmed was not providing that whereas the M series is...no wonder one can get frustrated with the resmed numbers when being compared to other peoples numbers on respironic machines.
Lastly.....where do I get encore pro analyzer and do I need it?
