Help - how to program my new Remstar?

Post by cajun » Wed Jul 16, 2014 11:57 am

Went to the VA yesterday, and they gave me a Remstar Auto A Flex System One. My prescription going back to '09 was for 5-9 APAP. After spending time here and buying s/w, I determined that I slept best on straight CPAP 9.0. I made the change myself on my old system.

The VA provider would only set the new machine to fit my old prescription. I tried it last night, and maybe it was just mental, but I couldn't get to sleep. I swapped back to my old machine (still set to CPAP), and knocked out.

So...how do I change my new one to CPAP 9.0?

Also, what s/w should I buy for it?

I was also given a Swift FX mask. I wore it last night, and really liked it. I've been on the Swift LT for probably 5 years now, and the new one seems to be a nice improvement.

I stopped being lazy, and found a site that claims to have the instructions I need. I'll try that. Any other tips or advice on the new machine and mask are appreciated!

before you bother with PR specific software, check out SleepyHead. It's pretty awesome and VERY informative. It's freeware, but many of us have donated to the creator (Mark). VERY worthwhile.

I also use the FX mask and the PR Auto System One blah blah blah 560... (too many words in their description.)I like both.

what she said about sleepyhead.

also, if you end up wanting to change your settings, pop over to apneaboard.com and check out the link at the top about "setting your own cpap pressures" or something to that effect... you can download the clinician manual and see all the info that the person setting it up for you had

My first mask to use 5 years ago was the Swift LT and I used it until the Swift FX was released and I also thought that the FX was way more quiet than the LT. Now ResMed has come out with the AirFit P10 nasal pillow mask and if she thinks the FX is quiet....the P10 is pretty much totally silent. If you ever get a chance to try one I would suggest you give it a try. The pillows themselves are very much similar to the FX pillows but the venting system is light years ahead of the vent on the FX. Pretty much silent and I have to hold my hand about an inch away from the vent holes to feel any air moving. Hubby no longer gets the stream of air from the vent....so he's a happy camper too.

SleepyHead does a great job but if you ever want to use the Encore software from Respironics just send me a private message. No urgent need though. It pretty much shows the same data just visually a little differently. Same format as the old Encore reports if you have seen those except it also offers wave form breath by breath flow rate graphs.
SleepyHead does the same thing though and you can interact with Sleepyhead and zoom in and out on stuff where as with Encore all you can do is look.
