experience with my cpap/titration study...

Post by dougndoug » Fri Jul 11, 2014 1:23 pm

Arrived at the sleep study center relaxed. They had me try on nose pillow style, and the triangle that just goes over the nose style. The nose pillow was the smallest, and felt the least like i was wearing a mask, so i opted for that during the sleeping. As i shifted in the bed, air seemed to make noise and slip out between the mask and my nose, so i adjusted and struggled a bunch to try to remove and make a perfect seal that didn't leak. My relaxed mind got upset with the thought of having to wear this for the rest of my life, so it took me much longer to fall asleep than normal. After doing a little light sleeping, the oxygen sensor slipped off my finger so the tech came in to replace and woke me. i noticed my nose was really "raw" and sore from the nose pillow mask, so we decided i'd change it to the triangle type.

Overall it was unsettling for me, as i haven't gone through much health issues yet, and it was more over the thought of my new fate rather than any difficulty. i'm on the younger side, so it's just something i didn't think would be on my plate at an age like this. they had respironics masks, but the tech said she heard good things about the resmed nano, and an "airfit" pillow (not sure the manufacturer of this one).

So i guess onto the DME phase. I'm feeling so lucky to not have a mask right now because i'm waiting for the Doctor to review my study, and feel like these are the last few days of normalcy to savor. I'm sure it's not that bad after you get used to it, and it may actually help (go figure) your sleep and life, but just wanted to share my experience.

thanks for any offers of suggestions if you have them
