Cpap with fluid in lungs.
Cpap with fluid in lungs.
Trying to figure out if something is up with my machine or not. I have been using the same Cpap machine since I got diagnosed with sleepapnea in 2006. I only use my humidifier in the winter time. But since almost 3 weeks ago I have been waking up coughing fluid up. About 2 hours after waking and all fluid is out I an fine @until I go back to sleep again. Tonight was the worse. Woke up after only an hour and a half of sleep and after an hour of focusing on getting the fluid up I am feeling fine again. Kinda afraid to use my Cpap again. I have been changing my filters more often thinking that might be it but it doesn't seem like it affects anything. I have been having problems with my mask causing my nose to be sore. I was forced to go from the breeze to tyhe opus when they said the breeze was discontinued. I am at a loss. I am making a doctor's appointment to talk it over but wanted to see what you guys thought since its the weekend.

Fluid in the lungs is a serious issue. I am gonna say you shouldn't have waited for the weekend. A long holiday weekend at that.
You could have a medical problem not related to cpap. Maybe an ER visit in in order.

It might be something wrong with your cpap machine, or it might be something else, like a heart problem. I have a friend who has a heart condition, and he thought it was asthma or a lung problem first because he was wheezing and struggling to breathe. With medication, it cleared up mostly, but if he eats too much salt, he wakes up in the night with fluid in his lungs. Could be very serious.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Cpap with fluid in lungs.
It's very important that you see your doctor ASAP about this since fluid in the lungs is serious. What you're experiencing at night may have nothing to do with CPAP.
If it does happen to be CPAP related my guess might be that your machine is no longer keeping your apnea under control, either because of something with your 8-year-old machine or a change in your airway over the past 8 years that calls for a re-evaluation of your pressure needs. Untreated or inadequately treated OSA can cause waking and coughing during the night, often from acid reflux. I was starting to get a wet cough at night right before I got diagnosed.
Do you get any information from your machine about your AHI, or mask leaks (you mentioned changing your mask)?
Please do see your doctor ASAP.

Go to ER.
Cpap doesn't cause fluid in the lungs, if anything it helps with it when you do have pneumonia.
Coughing "fluid" also doesn't always mean there is fluid in your lungs. It could also be mucus due to acid reflux and the oesophagus is protecting itself. Since it is only happening when you lie down, until you get to a doctor wedge the bed up or use a lot of pillows to prop your self up.

Be sure the doctor's office knows you're coughing up fluid when you call, so they can evaluate how urgent it is to see you.
