During a power outage is a generator OK for use
During a power outage is a generator OK for use
Just purchased a generator for power outages(south Texas has a bunch) are they ok to power the CPAP or will it get messed up. My thinking is it should be OK.

Yes, after hurricane IKE I taught patients how to use their machines while plugged into a generator.
Re: During a power outage is a generator OK for use
A better solution would be use deep cycle battery storage to run your xpap, and use the generator to charge the battery in the daytime as needed.
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

Another option to consider if you can afford it is to have a whole house generator installed which switches over to natural gas as soon as the main electrical power goes out. One of the best investments I ever made after Hurricane Katrina.

I'm sure your neighbors will appreciate the quiet time.Goofproof wrote:A better solution would be use deep cycle battery storage to run your xpap, and use the generator to charge the battery in the daytime as needed.

The deep cycle battery is a great investment; great idea to use the generator to charge the battery during the day too. Please don't run the generator in the house, near open doors or windows, in your garage.... The CO (and other nasty stuff) in the exhaust will kill you a lot faster than OSA.

Re: During a power outage is a generator OK for use
I just got a 1000 w generator to run my cpap. I have a resmed s9 VPAP adapt, max pressure 25cm. My dad, an electrical engineer, and I looked at alternate power options, and found that even a deep cycle battery would not be enough power. With one nights usage, the generator had no Problems lasting the night(run with humidifier and climate line hose). I plan to use it when car camping away from others. Sometimes I camp in a larger group that run generators. I know 2 people in that group who run generators for their cpap. and use it during power outages. Most people up here use generators during power outages, so my generator would only be a little voice in the choir.
