Decreasing pressure settings for ASV machine

Post by Dave007 » Fri Jun 27, 2014 3:35 pm

I think I may have Aerophagia and wanted to ask the docotor to lower my pressures to see if it helps any. As I understand it ASV has 3 pressure settings...which one should I ask him to reduce? All three or just one of them?

presumably, your doctor would know which would be best, it's not good for your well being to twiddle with an asv unless you have a pretty good idea what you're doing, and possibly monitoring your o2 sats while sleeping.

Dave,

I think you must have a 950 machine as it won't show on the equipment list.
Respironics ASV machines have the following pressure settings that may be of interest.

Discuss this with your doctor so you don't get into trouble.

EPAP Min
EPAP Max
Pressure Support Min
Pressure Support Max
Max pressure

IPAP is calculated

It is important that the machine be able to have a significant pressure differential when it is in ventilator mode. This is what keeps the air exchange effective when you are not breathing on your own. If this differential gets too small, in ventilator mode insufficient exchange takes place and you get rebreathing and CO2 and SpO2 issues..

Please be careful.

his comment about only three settings sounds more like a vpap adapt in asv mode.

Tough to mount a Respironics humidifier on a Resmed machine but I suppose it is possible with a lot of fiddling
