Apria wants my Data Card
Received a letter from Apria yesterday - now they want me to send my Data card in for proof of compliance to my insurance. I go on their website each month to comply, and when I called they told me my insurance provider is requesting that. They said my machine will continue to store data and when the card is returned to me, it will put the data on the card. Besides downloading the card into sleepyhead before I send it out, I thought I'd ask here before it's gone out in the mail - any thoughts? Anyone else have to do this? I will be so happy when my insurance company buys this machine and I only have minimal contact with Apria.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
Go buy yourself a new SD card so you can either copy the data from the currently used card to the new card and send the new card to the DME (that's what I would do)
or you can use the new card in the machine while the DME has your card. You might never see it again.
Generic SD card will work...doesn't have to be name brand and if DME squawks about it not being Resmed...tell them the dog ate the first one. or you lost it or whatever.
Yes...the machine does keep accumulating summary usage data but without the SD card in the S9 you won't get any useful graph detailed data.
What the machine stores is hours of use, general AHI, 95% leak number and maybe average/95% pressure if using APAP mode. That's it...no leak graphs...no daily detailed data at all.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
What you will lose are the wave form reports while the card is away from your machine. Respironics machines only record that information to the card. The daily detail record data is stored in the machine and will be written to the card when it is next inserted.
I suggest that you get a replacement card and use that while the original is away.
Better yet, have Apria send you one which you insert into your machine and send it back to them with all the compliance data on it.
You might also call your insurance company and ask them if they are requesting the card. It may be that all they want is a report showing all the compliance information. In that case, get a copy of Encore, print the reports and send them in. My insurance company is completely satisfied with Encore reports.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
Far too often, the medical mafia (DME's, insurance, and unfortunately many doctors) think the only useful data on the card is the compliance information. That's what rings the cash register. They don't bother to look at the wealth of other diagnostic information on the card. Even the wireless data modem link only sends very limited data back to the web site the doctors and RT's can look at.
The PRS1 and S9 CPAP machines do store compliance info even if there is no SD card.
I suspect the insurance will only want to see the SD card one time, but you can never predict or trust an insurance company.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
Scootergirl,
I had the same request from my DME (Nationwide at the time), and I arranged with them to zip & email the files to them. The tech gave me her email address & I sent it to her, all done within a day. She confirmed she received it and I didn't have to copy or give up my card.
Also, I don't know why, but my PR S1 560 won't accept a generic data card, I had a bad card at one point & Nationwide had to send me another PR card. Never figured out why, but when I called Nationwide they said it would not accept a generic card. I told them at the time I thought I had a malfunction in the machine because I had read here that any generic SD card should work. They disagreed with me & sent me a new card, so I shut up trying to tell them anything, since I got a working card.

Maybe the wrong kind of SD card but generic should and will work in most cases. I have bought more than one myself (dog ate one and I lost another and another was because as machine I bought privately the guy forgot to include the SD card)...so generic will work in most cases with both the 50 and 60 series machines. It used to be that the SDHD cards wouldn't work but I think except for the older model machine that even those work now.jencat824 wrote:Also, I don't know why, but my PR S1 560 won't accept a generic data card, I had a bad card at one point & Nationwide had to send me another PR card. I just got the el cheap Sandisk plain SD cards at Walmart myself. They worked just fine. Last time I was at local Walmart they didn't have anymore of those though.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
My insurance required that I actually have a doctor visit to show compliance. (They would download the card). Then I have to see him once a year to show compliance. Seems like once I pay for the machine, they wouldn't care if I saw the doc or not.

Oh wow, another creepy Crapria story. I'm so shocked NOT
As a side question: Can you use any generic SD card size. Any limits like 8gig, 16gig etc Sometimes the bigger cards a cheaper (I just read Pugsy's comments... any other reports on that issue?).
I just happen to have a spare 2gig generic SD card around and I know for a fact that it works fine in both my PR and ResMed machines.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Apria wants my Data Card
Cards bigger than 2 GB are SDHC, not SD. As far as I can tell, SDHC cards work just fine. IIIRC, I tried 4 GB and 8 GB and they both work on PRS1 and S9 machines.Sir NoddinOff wrote:Oh wow, another creepy Crapria story. I'm so shocked NOT

Cards bigger than 32 GB are SDXC. I haven't heard of anyone testing SDXC cards, but I suspect they may not work due to using exFAT file systems.
As best as I can tell, the PRS1 and S9 machines will not take advantage of a space over 2 GB, so there's no advantage to a card larger than 2 GB. It's getting hard to find 2 GB cards these days.
I've found over the years that some devices work with some cards and some don't. There's often no rhyme or reason to which does what. This has been on cameras and other devices, not necessarily CPAP.
I read somewhere that the "official" SD cards are tested to meet electrical safety requirements in terms of spacing to isolate the user from the circuitry. i.e. it's a requirement of the safety regulations that the manufacturer may legitimately have to require their own brand cards. I haven't heard that ResMed or Philips Respirnonics have actually locked you out from using standard SD cards.
The idea is that you can't let a patient get within some spacing, (probably 3 mm) of live electrical circuity so that they don't get shocked. It's probably not necessary in this case due to low voltage, isolated power supplies, etc., but the standards require it. I've dealt with the European safety standards before and they're batstuff crazy, but they do end up with pretty safe equipment.

I'm going to try again. I thought at the time the problem was with my machine, that's why I called Nationwide. I'll get a new SD card & test the theory. Re: Apria wants my Data Card
A lot of insurances (Bcbs policies) are requiring yearly downloads to show compliance to pay for supplies.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
Thanks for all the help - I downloaded my data into sleepyhead and put a SDHC card that I had already, into the machine to cover the time the other card is gone. I hope this means that Apria will finally submit bills to my provider and that the provider is going to buy the machine after this time period - this is the three month mark and I'm really not looking forward to having to prove compliance for another 9-10 months. It's not that it's hard to do, but it's a bit of a pita, considering it doesn't seem to mean much to Apria at all, being that they're still not submitting bills to my provider. Hopefully this will do the trick. And FYI, the SDHC card seems to work fine in my resprironics machine.

One other thing you can do is make a disk image of your SD card before submitting it.

Re: Apria wants my Data Card
I made the mistake of getting my machine and almost a year later, I sold it. I thought
my insurance had already paid for it. Turns out, two months later I get a letter asking
me for the SD card so my insurance company can check for compliance. So I solved the issue
by asking the medical supply store how much it would cost to just buy it. I sent them a money order
to pay for it. Now they've sent me another letter saying that the insurance company still wants the SD card
to check it. I've already purchased the machine in full. So what should I do now? I don't want to have
an issue with medical fraud, and I already told them I've been using it. I can't understand why
the insurance company still wants proof if I own the machine. Any ideas?
