Oily leaking from CPAP

Post by Rhb » Thu Jun 19, 2014 7:06 pm

Woke up to find a bit of a burning smell, and an oily substance leaking out through the mask. I must have been breathing this stuff for a while because it's all I can smell now. Took device to the VA who said it couldn't have happened and offered me a new mask and hose. A week later and I still feel sick. Any idea what might have been leaking? I have not used it since that night. Thanks

They should have offered you a new device. If I were you I would be demanding a new machine NOW!!

What kind of machine do you have, and how long have you had it? Are you able to find out (from the machine) how many hours it has run? Do you run the machine below the level of your head and/or use a hose management system? Do you have any kids who could be "playing a prank" on you? Definitely plan on spending some time demanding a new machine because it sounds as though that might be a factor.

Not likely, the only oil in the unit would be a maxium of 4 drops on the two motor bearings (self aligning oil lite bearings probably, or sealed ball bearings). Sounds like someone is messing with you and your stuff, or you spilled something in or near it. Jim
