Can someone help translate my sleep study?

So I'm new to all this but hopefully someone here can help explain my results better:



Below is your sleep study results from 5/15/2014.

Estimated body mass index is 45.35 kg/(m^2) as calculated from the following:
Height as of 5/8/14: 5' 2".
Weight as of 5/8/14: 248 lb (112.492 kg).




Findings:
Study is valid and the data are acceptable
This study is consistent with severe sleep apnea.
Oximetry data consistent with mild abnormality.


Recommendation:
Sleep lab will schedule patient for home-based 7 night A-PAP trial to determine compliance and ideal therapeutic pressure range.




FN: We classify sleep apnea severity as mild (5-14/h), Mod (15-29/h) and severe (>30/h)


From 5/23/2014

Auto-CPAP Titration Study (5-20 cm H2O)


Brief History: patient is a 29 Y female, BMI 45.4. The patient has obstructive sleep apnea, AHI 18.4/hr on watch PAT 5/2014.


Dates: 5/15/14 to 5/21/14
Days used: 7 days out of 7


Average Usage on Days Used: 7:23 hrs.
All days with >4 hours use.


Auto-CPAP Median Pressure: 8 cm H2O
Auto-CPAP 95th% Pressure: 12 cm H2O
Auto-CPAP Max Pressure: 13 cm H2O


Median Leak: 0 L/min
95th% Leak: 6 L/min
Max Leak: 15.6 L/min


Average AHI: 1/hr, with most events being obstructive.


Interpretation:
The patient demonstrates good compliance. Mask leak was not a problem. Residual AHI < 5/hr. The patient did not spend significant time < 90% saturation.

Was the 5/15 study an in-lab study, or an at-home study? The data here is sparse for a full sleep study, and makes it hard to interpret. But basically what they're saying is that you have sleep apnea and that the APAP you've been using fixes it. You have very few apnea events while using your mask, and you use it as directed. Your leaks are okay -- not great, but not enough to negatively affect your therapy.

Thank's for replying! Yes this was a home study, and I was using the nasal mask with it.

All I know now is I should be getting a CPAP machine sent to me soon.

Have you inquired of your supplier to know which cpap model you'll be getting? There are machines that provide helpful data for your ongoing therapy evaluation, and then there are machines which don't record useful data, i.e., "bricks." To be in control of the quality of your therapy, you'll want a fully data-capable machine.

Thanks for the link No they didn't tell me anything. My doctor said that I was getting a CPAP machine with a humidifier and mask but that was all I know. I can probably find out though. I'm supposed to hear back from the sleep lab about it any day now. The wait is awful Been tired and trying not to nap during the day.

I suspect that Ash has Kaiser and was titrated on a PR APAP. If that's the case, then leaks during titration were actually very good. Kaiser tends to give out full efficacy data machines (APAP), pressure settings wide open, and they do not generally offer a choice of machine.

The Watch-PAT is a limited tool which is why the report isn't more extensive.

But yes the ones I know about do dispense good machines. Full data available on them and high quality machines.
