ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
I am new to the ResMed S9 AutoSet coming from a S8 Elite II and have a few questions if someone can help. I am daily logging in a spreadsheet the Efficacy readings from the LCD screen for a couple of weeks and then plan on using the ResScan program later on.
1. The Leak reading on the S9 is different than the S8. The S9 Leak reading is in L/min and the S8 is L/s (I think). I know for the S8 it was kind of best if the Leak reading was .4 or below. What is the preferred limit reading for the S9? I have only used the S9 for four nights. First night reading was 33, next two nights was 28, 24, and last night was 21. Are these readings too high?
2. Apparently the SD Card is handled a little different between the S9 and S8. For the S8, the SD Card was left out till readings were needed. My DME tells me the S9 SD Card should be left in the machine. In the S9 Welcome Guide and the SD Card protective folder, they both indicate to me the card stays installed. So, is it that important the SD Card needs to stay installed? Does taking it out once a week or so when I want to see the readings in my lap top with the ResScan program cause any issues? I know I should lock the card before installing it in my lap top and unlock the card before re-inserting back in the machine.
3. The S9 Welcome Guide says to disconnect the device from the power outlet before removing the SD Card. The S9 SD Card protective folder doesn’t say anything about disconnecting from the power outlet. Is it a big deal if the power is disconnected or not before removing the SD Card?
I sure have enjoyed the S9 AutoSet so far. It is much quieter than the S8 and the Auto is much nicer than having that constant blowing. Also, I have a new ResMed AirFit 10 full face mask. It is super quiet and comfortable. I just hope the Leak readings are not too high. Thanks to anyone that can help.

Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
Hi Charles -- 24 is the "Do Not Cross" leak line for the S9 machines. Above that is considered large leak territory.
The SD card does need to live in the machine to capture all the detailed data. But there's no problem with taking the card out to upload your data to your computer. If you forget to put the card back in your S9 before going to bed, basic data will still be recorded by your machine but some of the detailed data won't be -- need the card in the machine for that.
I have never unplugged my machine before taking the card out. I'm sure most of us just pop it out and put it back without disconnecting the machine from the power source. No problem.
There's a good video tutorial in the link in my signature box for your machine.

Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
If your computer is a Mac or windows 8, it is a good idea to slide the write protect tab
to lock while it is in the computer; but unlock when it is in your cpap.
Also remember to load your data in every week, as detailed data gets zapped after 7 days.
--which just reminded me, today is the day I do that. 'Scuse me!

Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
Thanks chunkyfrog. I am running with Win 8.1 and have learned in this forum about that there locking and unlocking the write protect tab on the SD card. I guess I better get busy and load that ResMed scan program, have been on my new machine four days already. Great, another headache to learn. I hope it isn't too complicated. As long as it is below the red line(24 L/Min) it would be OK for the S9 but the machine can flag events at a higher leak rate (around 30 to 40). If the S9 can't diagnose it then it shows it in YELLOW color (Unknown).
Thanks to anyone that can help.
This was ok:

Looking for examples with Unknowns.
Here are a few events that were flagged as Unknowns (the 17sec and 20 sec, before 00.00). BTW, these lousy graphs are from 2011 and it took me 2 years to improve my damn treatment a lot.

Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
Charles, what do you mean by "Resmed Program"? These graphs are from my S9 Autoset and by using Resmed ResScan 4.3 software. Do you expect me to use SleepyHead with my S9 Autoset? NO WAY!charlesrshell wrote:Example,avi123 wrote:charlesrshell wrote:I am new to the ResMed S9 AutoSet coming from a S8 Elite II and have a few questions if someone can help. OP: Sleepyhead is a fine alternative to ResScan, and don't let Avi tell you otherwise. He's just got an irrational hatred of the program that he feels compelled to spout at every opportunity.

Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
Yes avi123, I met to say the ResMed ResScan 4.3. Going to install it some time this week. Hope I don't have any issues with Win 8.1.avi123 wrote:Charles, what do you mean by "Resmed Program"? Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
So I guess both programs are good ones. Is Sleepyhead from one of the CPAP manufacturers? The Latinist wrote:OP: Sleepyhead is a fine alternative to ResScan, and don't let Avi tell you otherwise. He's just got an irrational hatred of the program that he feels compelled to spout at every opportunity.
Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
No. SleepyHead was written by a cpap user like yourself who happens to be good with writing software code.charlesrshell wrote: Is Sleepyhead from one of the CPAP manufacturers?
Originally designed for the PR System One machines but expanded to include the other brands by popular demand.
SleepyHead is still Beta software and not without it's little bugs but for the most part does a superb job.
I usually tell people to try both if they can or want....use whichever one suits their needs...or both. There's nothing stopping a person from using both.

Does the Sleep Doc use ResScan 4.3 too for ResMed devices or something else? Thanks Pugsy as always. Re: ResMed S9 AutoSet Questions
Sleep docs and/or DMEs are going to use ResScan in some version. They wouldn't be using SleepyHead and there's nothing else out there that will work with the Resmed machines.charlesrshell wrote: Does the Sleep Doc use ResScan 4.3 too for ResMed devices or something else?
Some DMEs might be using the modem for compliance then the online software the modem transmits to but the data is probably very limited and similar to what ResMed is pushing as the next greatest thing since sliced bread...online SleepSeeker which is nothing more than what we can see on the machine's LCD screen.
