Newbie here and side sleeper
Newbie here and side sleeper
Any suggestions on mask choice for side sleepers. I have to do a full face and have not had a full nights sleep since I start this on May 1.
Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
Please list your equipment in your profile like I have mine so we know exactly what you are using.
This way people who use the same full face mask can offer more specific ideas.
Without knowing all we can do is offer generic advice.
The one thing I can think of is maybe use one of those cpap bed pillows that has cut outs on the sides to have a place for the mask to rest without causing pressure on the mask so much. There are tons of models out there and it's a crap shoot finding which one suits your needs the best as everyone is different.

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
Sorry so new. I did now. I hope you can see it. I have a pillow coming to me. My issue is I use the Quatro FX mask and have constant leaks. As far as full face masks I would love some feedback as to comfort and ease of use for side sleepers. I really need to make this work and not get so frustrated. I haven't had a full nights sleep since I started this process.

I am a newbie also and I found a pillow on line that is shaped like a t used for cpaps called PAPillow and so far I love it. Not as many mask leaks and it is very comfortable. They have a soft an squishy which I like and a firmer option for a choice. You might want to check it out!
Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
Hi Janelle, I think that is the pillow I have coming to me. I can't wait to try it. I have the feeling my mask is also too big after reading the directions on where it should lay. I don't mind purchasing my own mask. Suggestions are always helpful. So thankful for a support group.

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
I'm a relative newbie, 3 months into this. I'm a side sleeper with FF mask, Quattro Air. I struggled with constant face farts and noise from the leaks until I discovered mask liners. They've eliminated the noise, and most of the major leaks. I'm able to sleep through 99% of them. Lots of people here use Pad-A-Cheek liners that you can order online, others use RemZzzzs that you can get from your DME or order online. I tried both, and the RemZzzz liners work best for me. The liners are like a gasket, and provide a barrier between facial oils and the cushion. Do make sure you are washing your face really well before you put the mask on, to eliminate facial oil, makeup, etc. as these contribute to leaks.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
Full face masks are a challenge for leak management even when properly sized.
What pressure are you using? Are you using APAP mode starting out at a lower pressure and then maybe going a lot higher?
Makes for difficult adjustment to anticipate the higher pressure needs.
I have never used a full face mask so I can't help with specifics. Sorry. The best I can do is offer the usual...mask liners, cpap pillows, try a different size, try a different mask.....options.
Your machine choice and humidifier choice don't work together and the machine you have chosen is a discontinued model.
Let's try to figure out exactly which machine you are using ...look on the bottom of the blower unit (first remove water chamber if it has water in it) for a 3 digit model number which may have DS or REF in front of it or at the end of it.
The model number for the machine you have chosen is 550...the newer model machine is the 560 in that model type.
The humidifier you have chosen won't work with either the 550 or the 560.
Tell us the model number and we can tell you exactly which choice to make in the equipment menu.

I fixed the humidifier but I can't seem to find my machine. It is a REMstar Auto A-Flex

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
You will need to copy the numbers off the ID plate on the machine.
Since that may be on the bottom, REMOVE THE TANK FIRST!
Water is such a pain when it shorts out your electronics.

Well I did find out that the person gave me the wrong size mask. Now I am going to start looking and buying one of my own
Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
There's actually 4 different "Remstar Auto AFlex" machines...all with different model numbers.suec wrote:I fixed the humidifier but I can't seem to find my machine. It is a REMstar Auto A-Flex
Look on the bottom of the blower unit for the model number.
It's a 3 digit number...silver sticker I think..not a large sticker though.
If it says 550...you have the correct machine choice now with humidifier correct. However that machine was replaced by the 60 series machines a while back. While not impossible for you to be given that model...most DMEs are supplying the 60 series machines now.
If it says 560...you have a 60 Series machine which has the heated hose option. You may or may not have the heated hose as it is an option but it is available.
Machine choice from the menu would be PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP
and the Humidifier choice would be PR System One 60 series heated tube humidifier with heated tube (even if you don't have the heated hose)
The reason we try to figure exactly which machine you are using is because of potential additional features on one model and not the other which might help you out. Like the 60 series has a mask fit feature and the 50 series doesn't.
Respironics doesn't make it clear with the names on the machine tops exactly which model it might be...best to look at model numbers.

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
Until your cpap pillow comes in, know that when lying on your side, you need to have your mask hang over the side of your pillow. A cpap pillow makes that easier.

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
As usual, I'm a bit different. I prefer a soft pillow, and snuggle into the pillow with a ff mask,
helping secure the seal on the lower side with the pillow.
Mask off the edge did not work for the frog.

Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
I found the model number on my machine. It is a 560. After going to cpap.com and looking at full face masks I printed a template for sizing and it seems the mask I was given to use is too big. Now to find a good mask to use.
Re: Newbie here and side sleeper
I side sleep only and use the Airfit F10 with no issues. I changed from the Quattro Mirage to the F10 and sleep much better and have a better fit for side sleeping.
