What is an acceptable AHI?
Hi, I have using an S9 model with humidifier for about nine months. My leak index and snore factor are extremely low. My AHI factor is as follows:
7 days: 6.60 per Sleepyhead and 5.7 per Rescan.
30 days: 6.07 per Sleepyhead and 5.6 per Rescan.
6 months: 5.54 per Sleepyhead and 4.9 per Rescan.
I haven't seen the doctor since a followup visit about 30 days after starting with the machine. I don't believe I have a variable pressure machine, my pressure is at 10 all of the time. And humidity is at 4.5.
Some of the AHI factors I see on this forum are very low and it makes me wonder if there is room for improvement with mine. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, mike.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
With the S9 (and people with the PR S1 machines) when you are reporting an AHI number it is really helpful if you would include the AHI breakdown into each event category.
How much is the Central Index...the Hyponea Index and the Obstructive Apnea Index?
When you have time could you please add your equipment to your profile so we can see at a glance what you are using?
See mine as example.
If you want to post an image of a typical detailed night report..we talk about it here in this thread
It helps us if we can see what you are seeing.

It would help to know what machine you have. It is printed on the top of the unit. It sounds like it is set at a fixed pressure if it is an auto.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
I don't know the answer to your question... but I was over 70 on my sleep teat, and on CPAP 10cm for over two months, I haven't exceeded 1.0 on a single night, and essentially ZERO on true apnea... it is all hypopnea and central apnea, what little there is. I would discuss with with your medical professional... maybe there is room to better those numbers.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
The model # is essential to know which one you have as they all have different features.
Btw, auto machines can usually be set to work at straight Cpap, but plain Cpap machines don't do auto, so it's important to know which one you have. Often a doctor will order a plain Cpap for you, but it doesn't cost the insce. co any more to fill a script for an autopap, so maybe tell the doctor you'd like one.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
Hi,
Thanks for your tips. I have added my equip to my profile.
Regarding the detail of the AHI, it is:
Rescan: 7 days Total AHI 5.7 consists of 1.9 Central, 1.7 Obstructive and 2.1 Hypopnea
30 days Total AHI 5.6 consists of 1.3 Central, 1.8 Obstructive and 2.3 Hypopnea
6 months Total AHI 4.9 consists of 1.1 Central, 1.8 Obstructive and 1.7 Hypopnea
Sleepyhead: 7 days Total AHI 5.90 consists of 1.66 Central, 1.74 Obstructive and 2.5 Hypopnea
30 days Total AHI 5.94 consists of 1.74 Central, 1.94 Obstructive and 2.64 Hypopnea
6 months Total AHI 5.54 consists of 1.45 Central, 1.87 Obstructive and 2.22 Hypopnea
Hope this is more helpful. I'm not really sure what the components mean. Any observations are appreciated and again, thanks for the helpful tips.
mike.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
I forgot to ask..are you using EPR? If so, at what setting?
Your AHI is probably technically acceptable because we have to mentally remove the central index since we don't treat centrals with pressure with your type of machine.
That said...the Obstructive apnea index and the hyponea index...any chance you are seeing clusters of either? Technically it's under 5.0 but you are pushing the 5.0 a little and if there are any clusters the overall average isn't so bad but maybe the report isn't as pretty as the numbers sound. Times with nothing going on with clusters of a lot going on?? I had this happen to me and it was related to my OSA being worse in REM sleep...some people have it happen when sleeping on their back. Overall the average for the night is "acceptable" but the clustering is ugly and enough events clustered together can impact how a person feels.
Can you post an image of a typical detailed daily report?
Sleepyhead is fine...Mainly want to see the AHI bar graph breakdown on the left side and on the right side the Events graph, the flow rate graph, leak graph. You can turn off the AHI graph and mask pressure graph in Preferences/Graphs tab by removing the check mark. They aren't really needed.

Not sure why the AHI discrepancy between SH and ResScan ...unless it is a rounding up or own thing over time affecting things. I might see a tenth off but never anything like what you are seeing but then I don't look at much except last night's reports so I don't really examine SH and ResScan side by side. Statistically it probably isn't a big deal.

Re: What is an acceptable AHI?
The screen shot has to be uploaded to some place on the web...like Photobucket and then linked to it in your post. If you use an IMG link..we see the image immediately...if you use a regular url addy we get a link.
See the screen shot thread as I have examples of how to do it with Photobucket but same steps are used with any photo hosting site.
When you first put the img address in the body of your post you will only see the code for where it is at...check visibility or if link is working by clicking on the "preview" button...or submit...you can always edit the post if it doesn't work out.
