I did some searching to try and find out what the different settings on the PR System One Humidifier actually do other than get warmer as you turn the settings up. I came across a PDF document from Philips that sheds a bit more light...

In short, the settings from 1-5 correlate to target relative humidity goals:
Setting 5 = Target Range 80%-90% RH
Setting 4 = Target Range 70%-80% RH
Setting 3 = Target Range 60%-70% RH
Setting 2 = Target Range 50%-60% RH
Setting 1 = Target Range 40%-50% RH
This would probably explain why the past couple of mornings when I went to clean the humidifier tank the plate was cool. I have been using a setting of two and we have had quite a bit of rain. The RH according to the local weather was reported to be 76%. Since the target for setting 2 is 50%-60%, there was no need for the humidifier plate to come on.
