Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
Also try, with and without breathing. Perhaps breathing quietly and breathing heavy.
We still have a lot of variables (phone, exact distance, etc.) but that's ok. Probably be Saturday before I will have a half hour or so to try it.
I will go get the app right now (it's easier to get by PC anyway.)
[Edit: Got it.]

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
I'm thinking of picking up one of these masks soon.
Now that people have used them for a few weeks, how long are the pillows lasting?
I am currently using the nuance pro and it seems to be quite durable. I used the small for 3 months and the medium for the last month. I don't think I would have any problem using this mask for a few more months. Unfortunately they blow on my wife so I want to give these a try.
Thanks!

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
It's only been about a month for the people who got the first release...so it's going to be hard to evaluate pillow life until we get more people with weeks and months of use.paradoiley wrote:Now that people have used them for a few weeks, how long are the pillows lasting?
Typically...as a Swift FX user for over 2 years...I got months and months of use and I would expect to do the same with this mask.
I used it for about a week..then went back to my Tap Pap because I still prefer no headgear...then about 10 days ago changed back to the P10 because of a bit of tooth ache in one of my bottom back molars and just didn't want to aggravate it with the mouth guard....So coming on 3 weeks of use with the P10....Pillows still like new.
Pillow life depends on cleaning routine and facial oils....near as I can tell. Some people get months of life out of nasal pillows (any brand or model) and some people are lucky to get 3 weeks. We don't know why the difference.
Side note....I am still using the original Medium set of nasal pillows with my Tap Pap that I put on the first of March last year.
They look like hell but still seal great.
I don't over clean anything (wash the nasal pillows once a week or so)....my skin isn't particularly oily...I use a non oily moisturizer on my face at night and put it on long before bedtime....
I have always got 3 or 4 months of use from nasal pillows and normally they got tossed for being ugly than from getting too tired to keep a seal.
Just a quick wash with liquid soap in my hands, quick rinse and dry. Don't soak. Don't see the need.

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
I did a quick test (because I could), and will do a more controlled formal test over the weekend. We have a fan in our bedroom (across the room) and it was already on since my wife was in bed.teleute wrote:Alright, I tried a handful and "Sound Measuring Instrument" by Three and nine seemed to give me the most realistic/consistent reading in a fairly quiet room (for calibration). So what I'll try is this. When we go to bed, I'll use it just in the room and get a 30 second average, as a baseline. Then I'll get a 30 second average of it with him using the mask, with the mic pointing towards the mask, 3 inches away from the exhaust port. (And I'm going to try this for each mask, as my comparison.) It'll be easier for me to compare each of his to each other than mine to yours, given the variables, but hey....pseudoscience!
The background noise (due to the fan which is pretty quite) was 20dB.
According to the chart here http://www.sengpielaudio.com/TableOfSou ... Levels.htm this is pretty quiet.
Normal mouth breathing WITHOUT the mask at 3 inches would jump the meter up to 50. Heavy breathing showed 60-70dB and the strong "Breathing" I did was up to 90dB.
[Shocking until we recall that this is taken at *3 inches*.]
Essentially, (based on this quick test) the Airfit P10 nasal pillow mask is as quiet as I had previously reported.
Normal breathing at 3 inches left the meter close to flatline at 20dB.
When I pushed it with more intense breathing at 3 inches, it might reach 25db, occasionally closer to 30db.
If I TRIED to make it noisy then it reached about 50dB.
I was surprised at how little the meter responded, especially as compared to a variety of other mouse noises which convinced me the app was working and useful.
This was VERY informal, and I will repeat the test with the fan off over the weekend.

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
Whoops...I mixed up my apps. "Sound Measuring Instrument" was one I tried, but it's the one that kept registering zero db when the room was quiet (which cannot possibly be accurate). It was weird...maybe it doesn't like the mic on my phone. The one I actually used was "Sound Meter (Free)" by Smart Tools co.
Anyway, got a baseline measurement for the room of right around 30 db (on your chart the descriptor for 30 db is quiet bedroom at night, so that seems like a decently accurate reading). Didn't do different breathing types for each yet - it was late, and was pushing hubby's tolerance limits for science experiments.
Tried his current mask, the Pilairo Q - from at the loudest point of the breath it was peaking between 54 and 56. Tried the AirFit next - it was indeed quieter than even this "Quiet" edition of the Pilairo (which I'd expected just from how I perceived the noise), peaking between 51 and 53. Then tried the Wisp - yep. Only peaked at 42-43.
Very strange indeed. So at least it doesn't seem to be completely subjective on my part. Now the question is - is there something with the masks (either the AirFit or the Wisp) that is causing our experience to be atypical? Or maybe something about how they fit him? The latter seems more likely, since the masks themselves don't have lots of moving parts to screw up, they check out just fine, and SH shows similarly minimal leak numbers with both. I wonder if it's because of how tightly the AirFit pulls into his face (still hasn't managed to get the strap stretched out enough to be right)?

I am watching your experiments.teleute wrote:I wonder if it's because of how tightly the AirFit pulls into his face (still hasn't managed to get the strap stretched out enough to be right)?
It might be too annoying to try but maybe experiment with hubby just holding the P10 pillows gently next to nostrils enough to keep the seal but not be compressed much from the headgear being a bit tight.
I returned my Wisp Mask so I can't compare the noise...and it was back last Aug when I tried it...so I have forgotten
Maybe I can dig out the Nano cushion and compare...it's similar to the Wisp.
I am curious because from my past experience (nearly 5 years) and all the masks I have ever tried...the P10 is silent....I don't even get my normal inhale sounds that I usually get which are conductive in nature.
But mask preferences and how they are perceived is truly unique to the individual and I don't doubt what your ears are telling you...but I am really surprised as you are the first to report more noise (for whatever reason it might be from) with the P10.
It's why I always say "one man's treasure is another man's trash"

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
We'll see how much I can get him to play along.
I was kind of curious as to whether it was just my ears playing tricks...that's why I was determined to try something less subjective. There was actually even a bigger difference in results than I expected! Likely because I sleep further away than 3 inches, and so the sound differential would decrease with distance. Hubby otoh was not surprised by the high differential, so that's probably it.
Definitely goes to show how fit can be so important and personal, eh?

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
Another thing that might be different is simply the pillow fit -- maybe there is even a high frequency whistle that we don't even hear but registers on the meter.
I suppose that my app needs to be switched out for the same one that works on your phone.
If the second app works on my phone then it will make sense to even compare the two apps for conformance.

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
I’m fairly new to the CPAP world and was fitted with a ResMed Swift FX head gear about six months ago. I had a difficult time adapting to the head gear and it seemed like most nights I would wake up to either the mask leaking, the mask pulled off or me snoring after the mask was removed. About a month ago, I joined the this forum and did some searches; which lead me to the ResMed AirFit P10. I called my CPAP supplier and was fitted with ResMed AirFit P10 mask and it has been like night and day for me. The mask doesn’t bother me like the Swift did and I’m getting more used to my CPAP machine.
I really like the ResMed AirFit P10, it is great. I don’t have any problems with the non-adjustable head gear, actually with my long hair, the Swift was more of a problem. With the Swift, I had to put my hair up in a pony tail to get it to work; which I don’t need to do with the ResMed AirFit P10.

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
I have been using my AirFit P10 for a few weeks now, and am so pleased with it for so many reasons! When it arrived, I almost thought the box was empty...it's so lightweight! The flexibility of the short hose is so comfortable...no pulling while I change sleeping position. The quietness is unbelievable compared to almost two years of trying a new mask every time I could. My husband can sleep closer to me now because the air diffused is practically non existent.
I have one question that I haven't seen in any of the previous posts. Are their any measurement differences between the blue strap versus the pink strap? I received the blue one from my DME supplier, and it's fine, but wondered if the pink one might be just a bit more snug.

I got my P10 from cpap.com and ordered the "For Her" model and got the typical 3 sizes that go with ResMed "for her" models which are XSmall, Small and Medium and I got the blue/gray strap also.
You might send Carolyn a note and ask her if she knows of any difference in sizing of the elastic headgear.
Typically the For Her models were just a change of color and the addition of the XSmall pillows instead of the Large.
I haven't read anywhere about headgear size being different but I could have missed it since I didn't even know there was a pink available.

I saw it on the ResMed site. From their description, it sounds like it may be sized differently, but wondered if anyone in the forum had one. http://www.resmed.com/us/products/airfi ... c=patients
Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
Mine is like the one in the picture at the ResMed site...never noticed the pink on the inside ...just the blue/gray on the outside which is probably more gray.MareSzab wrote:I saw it on the ResMed site. I have not seen a blue one.
It might be a different size...Resmed did it with the Swift FX for Her but it was just the back strap length that was smaller near as I could tell.
The regular one was navy blue and the pink/gray one was what was included with the for Her package. The navy blue back strap was longer and I happened to lay them side by side to compare once when I had both. I was able to use both sizes in the Swift FX but the navy blue barely would go small enough for me.
It is going to be difficult to measure the P10 but let me see if I can measure mine and let you know what it seems to be...gotta find something flexible though..
Be back in a bit.

Re: Reviews of new AirFit P10 Resmed nasal pillow mask thread
Okay...been using mine about a month now I guess.
the 2 skinny pieces are both 9 inches long
the side part measure at the bend up to where it splits off to the 2 skinny pieces are 5 inches long
They may be stretched out a little from use as it was a big too snug first few nights.
The 2 skinny pieces is likely where there is going to be a difference...if there is a difference. So if yours measure greater than 9 inches then the pink/gray one is smaller.
