0.0 Two nights in a row?

Post by hyperlexis » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:38 pm

I just had my second 0.0 AHI reading two nights in a row. I had a rough night with vivid nightmares and I feel beat this morning. I slept a long time over eight hours.

The 90% pressure was up to 12.5 (the 30 day average was 10.5).

Again, I switched off the Quattro, on to the Han Rudolph V2 two nights ago, when I got the first 0.0. Then again, the same thing.

Have other folks got radically different numbers when switching masks, like this?

I'm just wondering if the numbers are legit, or the machine has gotten 'cofused' by the change in mask/venting.

Is it possible to have a 0.0 yet still the machine thinks it needs to boost the pressure up? Wouldn't having no AHIs actually make the 90% pressure decrease?

I wish there was a manufacturers rep on here to get technical info from once and a while. I know there is a DeVilbiss person here but they have been AWOL for months.

hyperlexis,

I have also had consecutive days of 0.0 AHI, but it was not because of a mask change. Perhaps the change has improved unknown leaks or even provided more comfort and less awakenings thus improving your numbers (the machines when gathering data don't know if you are asleep or awake, as Pugsy and others have said).

Also I have seen it mentioned to unplug and then replug our PAP machines to essentially 'reset' or 'reboot' them, especially if you are getting numbers/data that seem odd or unusual for your normal therapy results. I try to do this on a regular basis, every few weeks to a month, since reading about it here.

Whatever the reason, I hope your PAP therapy continues to go well for you and provide the sleep and health benefits you need .

John

That's an idea to try, doing the unplugging etc. Thanks. Yes, it's not that I'm not wanting a 0.0, it's just that it seems darned near statistically improbable. So was concerned it was a glitch.

Check if you have any vibratory snores on your report. The machine will increase pressure in response to snores, even in the absence of any events.

If I get 0.0 for more than 2 days in a row, I reboot the machine.

Sometimes when I have had a particularly "bad" night, I am surprised at my low AHI score. I've thought it to be perhaps I didn't spend much time in, or reach, the stage of sleep where most of my apneas normally occur.

My last four nights in a row have been 00 nights......are you saying that my machine is not accurate? It gets unplugged every day. Before the last four nights, I have had quite a few other 00 nights. My AHI has been running 0.00 to 0.70.

Just asking??

Hi Janice,

I would speculate that if you are unplugging your machine everyday, hence rebooting it, then it probably isn't recording false 0.0 AHI's which I have heard can happen to PR System One PAP's and possibly Resmed ones too, I believe.

Chances are good that you just have everything dialed in very well and your numbers are reflecting that. If you are feeling good about the quality of your sleep and how your PAP therapy is going then I say... Hooray for you, your hard work is paying off .

John

Thanks John,

I have been feeling very well as far as my sleep goes. I sleep for 6-7 hours straight every night, no more nocturia. I sleep pretty deep too. I used to feel like was half sleeping and half awake all night when on regular cpap or apap. Now I am not having all the desats and breath holding events lasting up to 130 seconds at a time linked to 60 seconds, linked to 35 seconds, etc, etc......HUGE difference! It took a lot of years to get where I am today.

I am very greatful that they make a machine that works for me!!

Janice

Unplugged machine, rebooted it, and tonight the AHI was 1.2 and the 90% pressure was 11.0.

I will try to remember to do this every few days. Who knows possibly a software/firmware glitch or possibly truly 0.0 x 2 was correct.

Listening Respironics?
