cpap chin strap - help!

Post by tesscat » Wed Jan 01, 2014 3:47 pm

Hi there,
New to sleeping with a cpap machine. I need a strap to hold my jaw up, but the chin strap i have pulls my jaw back so that I think over time, I could develop problems. It is the Ruby chin strap by Tiara Medical Systems.

Are there any chin straps that seem to pull "up" more than pulling the jaw backwards? I also tried one from Walgreens, but it didn't work at all.
Thanks for any recommendations!

I agree with squid. I tried 5-6 chinstraps. The Ruby was my best bet, but lost it's strength way too fast, so I found material twice as thick and made my own. It helped the effctive time, but still too quick. It was the PapCap that finally got my mouth shut, once I learned to put the strap under the BACK of my jaw, so that the back of my tongue was against the soft palate and kept the supplied air from escaping from my mouth. You can still take a sip of water or talk as best one can with a nasal mask/pillows.

I recently had occasion to try a full face mask for the first time in my 8 years on CPAP. Always wondered if that was an answer. NOT for this guy!! I traced a pattern from my orignal papcap and make my own now. I found where to get the 2" stretchy velcro(velstretch), which again, wore out too quick. It's nice to see ZERO leak nights pretty regularly!!!
