Sinus infection and sleep

Post by readyforsomezzzzzzs » Mon Nov 18, 2013 7:34 pm

Hi everyone. I was wondering if there are any tips for sleeping with the mask when congested. Thanks so much.

I use a saline nose spray 15 to 30 minutes before bed. The last time I had a cold, I wore my mask all night. My nose running into my mask awakened me a few times, but the humidity from the CPAP helped keep my nose unclogged.

By the way, when I was at the allergist several months ago, she asked me if I knew how to use nose spray. Duh, spray it up my nose. No! She told me to tilt my head down, point the nose spray to the outer corner of my eye that was on the same side, and spray; if it was going down my throat I was doing it wrong. Who knew?

Interesting as I have read so many different versions as to how to spray something into your nose. I will give this a try, thanks!

readyforsomezzzzzzs, you also might want to try nasal irrigation. I had given up on it, thinking it didn't work but am strongly considering trying it again.

I find that the force of my CPAP is usually enough to open up my sinuses, even during minor congestion. Since I can't sleep without my CPAP, when congestion gets really bad I bite the bullet & consume one of those NyQuil style meds. I don't like how groggy they make me feel the next day, but at least I get to sleep through the night.
